SEC basketball 2022, Part II

SEC Awards announced - thought I'd post here rather than start a new thread:

Congrats to Dawn for COY accolades. Boston POY and DPOY; Sam Spencer FOY. Not exactly shockers. It's a fairly predictable and non-controversial list this year, as far as I can tell.
I think Kim should have gotten COY. Period. But I guess Dawn was the easy choice.

As a counterpoint, I think the COY choice based on defying expectations/overcoming adversity was Finley, but many conferences have an unspoken rule that it requires something truly exceptional to not give the award to the conference winner. And SC is a freak loss to Mizzou away from running the table in the conference, so ... it's not exactly a head scratcher.

Anyone else a bit surprised Beal didn't get the DPOY nod? Or even any representation on the all-defensive team?

It's also funny to me that two of Missouri's best wins came without one of their All-Conference players Aijha Blackwell.

Agreed, nothing surprising here. If recruiting is part of coaching for purposes of this award, then Staley definitely deserves it. If not, Finley or Mulkey. Either way, ii doubt Finley or Mulkey begrudge Staley for voters for Staley winning this. Any of those coaches would trade COY for post season wins anytime( caveat: financial incentives included in their contract also contribute to what is most valued)

Any coach who wins their conference is deserving of coach of the year. It doesn’t discount the amazing jobs Coach Mulkey and Coach Finley did, both are also worthy of such recognition.

Congrats Coach Staley

I’m sure Kim and Dawn could care less. They have won those awards many time plus that’s not their focus anyways.

Congrats to all recipients. I wouldve picked Kim or KRF but can't disagree with picking Dawn. Her team has been the dominant #1 team all season and she's done a great job. All 3 are on my short list for NCOY.

I think Novak should have been given some kind of recognition, too -- is there a coaching equivalent of a Purple Heart?

Vandy up 44-28 over TAMU after 1 half

Well, this season Dawn has beaten:

Geno
Tara
Kim x 2
Brenda
Gary x 2

So, that’s a sweep of all active championship coaches. I guess she deserves it.

Tough way for Blair to go out but Texas A&M has underplayed their talent level all year. No way that team should be 14-15.
Saw the game. Blair showed no emotion. Just a cuddly grandfather look. Very happy for Shea. Knock em all down

Couldn't watch the game but glanced at the box score. That first quarter, wow.

It's Vandy's first win in the SEC tournament since 2015-2016 season.

Jasmine Powell is transferring from Minnesota to Tennessee. I know nothing about her. Is this a good pick-up for them?

Yes, should be. I thought I had read that LSU was interested in her as well. She has two years left. Some of Minnesota fans thought she didn't play defense and took too many shots but she is good. She is from Detroit as is Rickea Jackson.

Did anyone see this? wow

I think that she is a decent addition to the Lady Vols roster. Decent scorer. Decent shooter. Pretty decent rebounder for her size and position (5'6" point guard) Okay on the defensive end. I mean hardly anyone is a lockdown defender out there these days. Jasmine can do enough to create some chaos out there on the floor on the defensive end. Great young lady. I watch/listen to a lot of the Big Ten games, especially Minnesota, Michigan, and Michigan State. Jasmine is solid and a decent pick up for the Lady Vols.

Great win by Alabama today over a very tough Georgia team. Lady Vol/Alabama match up should be interesting. That South Carolina/Arkansas match up is going to real good! 1pm game time. Great matchups all around! LSU/Kentucky. Ole Miss/Florida.

Alabama just had Georgia's number this season.

Georgia is a confusing team. I expected better out of them. They seem to be heading in the wrong direction over the past few weeks...

I officially take back everything I said in the preseason about Georgia being overlooked and disrespected to start the season. I guess all those voters were right

Terrible news for her and a really tough blow for Florida. She was very deservedly SEC 1st team and all-defensive team. I just hate seeing anyone's season cut short prematurely by injury.
