Sabrina is missing lots of threes 0-6. She will figure that out. Rest of her game is ok. 10 pts, 7 rebound, 3 assists in 27 minutes after 3 qrs. Still she has 4 turnovers. She is missing a Ruthie like presence down low. Hope she has a good 4th qtr. Seattle's starters are very good.
Sabrina is not bad as a fresh rookie even she missed lots shot. She is much better than Plum's fist game.

Liberty sure missing Megan and need Kia to be ok. .

Seattle is running away in the 4th quarter with mostly subs on the floor. Canada looking good.

Seattle's benches just too strong ..Liberty cannot handle

I'd agree. Russell, Canada, Megbegor, Prince plus Sabrina would beat any 4 Liberty players plus Sabrina. Anybe they'll be better with Megan and Kia playing, but not with who they have left.

I tuned in late. I don't think Bird played at all in Q4 did she? Sounds like she had a good game. Canada is good enough that the Storm can be conservative with Bird's minutes to help keep her rested during the course of the season.

Canada can be a starter in other team ...

Canada will probably split minutes. Bird still has all the smarts but you can tell her speed and quickness have really started slowing down. Bird started out defending Sabrina, but they switched her off pretty quick.

Maybe I was watching a different game but Ionescu shot 4 for 17. She is obviously limited athletically. She needs space to score and not sure she can create her own shot consistently. Wondering how she will fare when she faces elite defensive guards.

I can see the upside to most of the other Liberty rookies (Odom and Willoughby in particular) but Shook seems too slow to be very helpful. I know she is supposed to be a good 3pt shooter for a big bit without any real explosiveness to threaten inside, I do not see it.

Does anyone know why Jasmin Jones did not play?

Excellent first game. Still has a nose for rebounding, which was my biggest concern.

She definitely looks like she belongs but excellent is a bit of stretch.

Once she settles in with her jumper she'll be a legit star.

Considering it’s her first game, it’s excellent. PG is the hardest transition to the WNBA. Couldn’t have asked more from her other than hitting more shots, and that’s quibbling. Definitely not looking like a bust. I remember Diggins and Vandersloot having forgettable rookie seasons.

Clarendon was playing PG. Ionescu was at SG. Ionescu’s assist to turnover ratio was 1 to 1. That ratio is poor. Her shooting % was horrid. Lloyd scored efficiently against her [56% shooting]. Seattle was +20 in Lloyd’s 23 minutes. Those are not encouraging stats.

So, you clearly have an axe to grind here, yeah?

New York's roster is just not good top to bottom. No rookie is gonna come in and magically transform them into a contender. Ionescu doesn't have much to work with in terms of teammates, especially with Nurse getting injured early in the game.

But you're probably right, we should just go ahead and write Sabrina off after her WNBA debut. No other player has ever struggled in their first game and gone on to be a solid pro, right?

I do think it's important that she hits shots if she's going to take 17 a game.

But I hear ya. That will come with time. And you're right about PG being the position with the toughest adjustment.

I watched every minutes of her 4 years at Oregon. She shot 42.2% for threes making 329 in her four years.
Today she missed all 8 3 pt shots and she was open for every one. Overall the two teams shot only 25% for threes as they got used to playing with no crowd in the Wubble in their 1st game. Still Sabrina was 45% for 2 point shot and created a few of them.

I agree she was tight today learning a new system with no low presence in the paint. Ionescu will make those shots and she wll be fine.

Thanks for sharing.. You wacth those highlight and I wonder how Adriacus thinks Sabrina can't create her own shots. She'll make her threes when as she gets more comfortbale with the system and her role.

No axe grinding. But the stats/results/eye test don’t support the descriptions above [“great, “excellent”]. Her debut was rough. Some good, more bad. Not close to the worst ever for a #1 overall pick but not close to the best ever for a #1 overall pick.
Ionescu had trouble in college against athletic & defensive minded teams [Baylor, Louisville, etc.]. She will be facing those types of players/teams regularly now.
History shows that more first round picks fail than succeed. Presuming success isn’t warranted. Ionescu’s success depends on her ability to create space and score in much smaller windows of opportunity. Every player has to make that adjustment.....but her average athleticism makes it a bigger item for her.
