Seattle Storm @ Phoenix Mercury - 9/02/18

This is actually the first game in the series I've been able to watch. Nice start for Seattle. Up 17-8 at the first media T.O.

Stewie with a quick 6 on 3-4 and Sue Bird with a much needed 3pt shot. Phoenix cannot have another subpar game from DT.

Loyd is feeling it. 25-10 Storm.

That's no good, Bonner hit the back of her neck on the baseline camera man's leg.

Griner's elbows have been active. Phoenix is getting away with a lot the refs aren't calling.

31-16 Storm after Q1, shooting around 70% from the floor!

.-.
31-16 at the quarter and Mercury shooting cold. This is a hole and a half for Merc to try to climb out of. Seattle looking very sharp. Too fast for the Merc I think.

Sitting 3rd row behind the Storm bench. Have to stand up most of the time because this is where the small contingent of Seattle fans are sitting. Mercury started out playing good defense today but they can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Stewie can’t be guarded today.

Taurasi was scoreless in Q1 but has it going in Q2, Mercury has the lead down to 8. Seattle had 4 starters on the bench for a while. Probably too much of a gamble, that's when Phoenix started their comeback.

.-.
Damn! Sue took an inadvertent elbow to the nose from Stewie.

Friendly fire. Stewie just nailed Bird with an inadvertent elbow. Bird is being taken to the locker room.

Turner strips Canada and hits a three. She came out of nowhere after 8 years abroad.

.-.
Storm has really cooled off but still leading by 10. Griner has had a big half but Bonner has been quiet. She's been amazing in the playoffs to this point.

Jumpers aren't falling now but Seattle is cutting the Phoenix D apart and getting layups.

53-42 Seattle leading at the half. Griner has 19, Taurasi has 11 but Seattle getting balanced scoring.

edited--Stewie has 12, Loyd 9, the other 3 starters all have 7 or 8

I hope Sue is ok! Seattle needs her, especially if they make the finals, and the USA needs her in Tenerife. The only game that was close at all in Rio was the game against France, when Sue was out with an injury.

Multiple Seattle players driving to the rim at will for easy layups.

The Mercury defense, or lack thereof, will be the end of them. They're just not quick enough, and it doesn't seem to any kind of a point of focus for the team. And it's been that way for how many seasons now?

Stewie seemed to become passive after she took Bird out. Come on Stewie. We know you feel bad but you don't have time for that.

Looked to me like Sue just had a bloody nose - I’m expecting to see her 2nd half. Hopefully she’s not concussed.

Mercury seemed to wake up a little on offense last ~5 minutes (since Sue went down?), but Bonner still can’t find the basket.

They mentioned she's had her nose broken before. It was a hard shot, not just a glancing blow. Not saying for sure it's broken, but it might be more than just a bloody nose. She was off the court for quite a while.

Sue gets her the ball in better spots than anyone else does. I think the MVP will come through.
