First and foremost, let's hope the young man is OK.

After that, if he is lost for any significant portion of time that is an enormous blow to the offense. Frankly, that we are so thin and inexperienced at the position speaks to a coachning issue and I find it very hard to believe that true frosh are ready for the physical demands of that position at this level.

Hopefully this is a precautionary ride to the hospital for McQuillan.

Just keep taking them shots at the coaching staff...... that's the good ole UConn spirit.

Yeah, sometimes there's a position where you have a mix of seniors and underclassmen getting experience, but sometimes you have two guys with playing time locked down for a couple years like Griff and Delahunt did.

Damn hope the kid is doing o.k. looks like an oportunity for Boland to step up. Maybe bring in Fuchs depending on the severity of the injury.

I saw on a twitter feed that QB Whitmer didn't think Sean McQuillan was all there before the play occurred. He said McQuillan let up while Mack went full throttle. Not a good sign, hopefully he will not be lost for too long.
I had to leave the practice just before this happened. It appeared that all the QB's had their share of good throws and bad ones. Hard to tell how the O line is. Early on there was a heated "discussion" between CB David Stevenson and WR John Green. Intensity was up.
I was on the side line talking to Josh Marriner's Dad Melvin. Seems like Josh turned down a number of good schools to play at UCONN. As they say "Welcome to the DOG POUND".

I was at the practice and the hit happened right in front of me. It was a brutal helmut to helmut collision after Sean made a nice reception. He went down face first and stayed down. Glad to see him move his legs a bit but that was it, he never got up. They very carefully rolled him over onto a stretcher, helmut still on, strapped him down and took him away.

Nice to see a group of players in a prayer huddle. Really hoping the kid is ok, he was playing very well.

This happened 20 feet in front of me. Caught the ball in the flat, turned and got drilled by Mack (who looked shaken up after practice). McQuillan dropped the ball before he hit the ground. Good news is that he rolled over and was moving his legs. Hopefully it's all precautionary. Tough way to end practice short.

I guess none of you saw when coach p continued practice ten yards away from where Sean was laying, and made sure they got the plays in before they stopped. He should've stopped practice when the stretcher came out, only stopped when the ambulance came. It's only disgusting unprofessional and should be met with swift punishment. Talked to a couple friends on the team afterwards and they are all pissed about how PP handled the situation. Ugly scene, hope Sean is okay.

That seems like an overreaction. Football is kind of like war in terms of what your disposition needs to be. If Sean got his bell rung but was responsive and being tended to, I kind of like that PP pressed on. He needs to coach like a desperate man this year and that move shows some hunger and edge.

I totally understand your position. I'm a big softie, but I am not a professional football coach either.

First, the plays were being run nowhere near where he was laying.

Second, you simply don't know the severity of the injury right away.

I'm willing to cut him some slack on that.

He stopped practice when they all saw how serious it potentially was (when they brought the backboard out - the stretcher came out of the ambulance)... making mountain out of molehill imho (not the injury - just coaching criticism). Training staff was all over it.

Hell - we must have been side by side (I was leaning on fence).

I agree. It was better than having 80 guys circled around watching a wounded comrade. And I'm sure Sean would not have wanted that.

First and foremost I hope Sean Mac is ok. I don't want to see him back on the field until he is 100%...no reason to risk it. As for Marriner turning down other schools...Buggs is from Hampton Roads VA area and was a HS coach there before goung to PSU as a grad asst. Ties run deep in that area and I'd bet Buggs landed him for that reason.

His Dad said they signed on before they knew Coach Buggs was coming here. He said it was just a bonus for them. They know people who knew him but they hadn't met him.
