I would much rather Uconn playing SC 2morro night than Stanford..With all the hype SC has gotten all year I still think Uconn matches up very well with them and would have an easier time reaching the championship game..I don't think they match up well with Stanford at all;even if Dorka was there..Anyone agree?

I agree. Stanford is seasoned and plays smart team ball, both offense and defense. They are not a one-weapon team and, being well-coached, they can adjust to what a defense gives them. I can see us hanging with SC and pulling it out but I am afraid that anything but a hot-shooting night from UCONN will not cut it against Stanford.

South Carolina is the better defensive and rebounding team..........they don't have to play great to win.....,.....Stanford is more of a finesse team and they do need to shoot fairly well to beat a team like UConn.........either way, they gotta beat them both which isn't going to be easy....

ore than likely, they will have to play both of them in order to win the NC. Don’t think who they play first is very important

Well it is b/c if you don't beat the first team ur not getting to the title game so my question was which team would you rather play to get to the championship game

By playing Stanford first, UConn will have a lot more rest and preparation time than if we had to play them in the final.
And maybe Louisville will be able to beat SC.
Stanford only scored 59 points against Texas, so UConn just needs their defense to be effective.

I’d rather play Butler. But, since we already know who we play first, it’s a moot question.
Just asking people's opinion..you don't want to give your's.. thats fine

The original poster was concerned about the match-ups...I agree with that the match-ups with the bigs are a problem without Dorka as a back-up. If our bigs can stay out of foul trouble we will be fine. Our advantage in the back court should more than make-up for what we give up in the front court. This will be a heck of a match-up game. I am not sure what advantage we would have had if we had to play South Carolina to advance to the final game. Bottom line is in order to win a championship UConn will have to beat them both. Stanford has a lot of weapons offensively but UConn is one of the best defenses in WCBB. I like our chances to advance to the final game.

Stanford also has a very good defense..in fact they rank 7th to Uconn's 17th in defensive field goal %...You have Belibi even with Caroline. That's a definite advantage for Stanford..Belibi is a force while Caroline barely plays the problem is Jones plays in the backcourt as much or more than she does the frontcourt b/c she's the facilitator for the offense..also like geno brought up ..how long they are at almost every position

I don't expect the match-ups as I wrote them to be written in stone... They are for comparative purposes only...bottom line there will be a lot of zone played by UConn. However, when you look at averages per game...UConn matches up just fine. If Aliyah defends Hailey sometimes and Caroline defends Hailey sometimes or if it is Nika Muhl whoever it is at the end of the game it is about players playing up to and above their averages. Bueckers averages 14.7 points per game but she went off for 27 last game. Nothing is written in stone...just playing the law of averages. My comment regarding UConn's defense wasn't to imply that Stanford doesn't play good defense they certainly do. And as good as Stanford's defense is they still have to stop UConn's potent offense.

COVID and injuries have skewed the statistics to the point that it is hard predict who is going to have an above average game on either side. To be honest I expect Brink to play above her averages but I think Stanford guards are going to have their hands full. Remember we have to make up for Dorka's 19 minutes. Who gets them? Whoever it is, however the minutes are distributed could make a difference on the match-up scenarios above. And, of course, there is always the dreaded foul problem...if someone crucial gets into foul trouble it could have a monumental impact on the outcome of the game.

This is why I expect this game to be a great match-up game... The road to the championship isn't easy for anyone in the final four.

With Dorka healthy, they would’ve rolled over everyone. Very early on, NC State was on the verge of getting blown out before Dorka went down,

I think UConn matches up fine. I see them as comparable to Oregon, who gave us a lot of problems each time.

Lol, that’s like me saying I see Stanford as comparable to South Florida or Indiana.

Not sure how you are getting that lol. The general makeups of the rosters at UConn and Oregon are pretty similar, so the matchups are going to be comparable....which is what I said originally. UConn has more skill, but UConn will probably try attacking us similarly to how Oregon did.

Really? Name five Oregon guards that are comparable to Paige Bueckers, Evina Westbrook, Azzi Fudd, Nika Muhl and Christyn Williams up front? Who does Oregon have at 6ft 2 who can shoot, rebound, pass, can lead a fast break, and cut to the basket like Caroline Ducharme?

I can’t wait for your answer. Lol

No arguement here. However, I would never underestimate that team or Tara as a coach. I really look forward to this game. TOP SHELF!

Oh brother, give it a break. Reading truly is fundamental. Nowhere did I say the talent is equal, but the rosters are built pretty similarly. The tendencies of some of the players are pretty similar too. However, if you actually read with any intent other than to be shady, you would have seen I mentioned UConn has more skill. But, of the five guards you listed, I'm willing to bet the gameplan would be to force them to beat you from the perimeter. That is pretty similar to what Oregon's guards like to do. Like Oregon, UConn has not shown to be very consistent from 3pt range this season. As a team, Oregon shot 33% from, UConn shot 34%. Looks pretty comparable to me. So I'm guessing Tara will devise something to make them prove they can hit those perimeter shots. In the tournament, UConn hasn't shot well from 3, either.

UConn, like Oregon, has guards that like to work the midrange. PaoPao is one of the best in the country at this. Especially now with Juhasz out, UConn really just has two bigs Geno trusts to play big minutes. Oregon was in a very similar situation as Sabally and Prince were relied upon to hold the post down.

Thought I'd update to say I bet the gameplan for Bueckers, Fudd, Muhl, Westbrook. and Williams would be for the latter 3 of the 5 to beat you from the perimeter. Forcing Paige and Azzi to do so would likely send us back to the Farm extremely disappointed :D

Massey ratings has S.C. number 1, but 17th in offense/1 in defense...Stanford is 6/4, UConn 9/3. We have to play both of them to win it all, so it really doesn't matter who's first.

Well it is b/c if you don't beat the first team ur not getting to the title game so my question was which team would you rather play to get to the championship game
But ... We don't have a choice! Go Huskies beat Cardinal!!

Stanford because well be better after playing them who I believe is the best team, South Carolina can still win wouldnt be be surprised but I believe they are the better team. We win we will have momentum and added confidence we lose we gain a ton of experience going into next season. So hopefully its after a win.
