Sarah Strong is a top 10 candidate for the 2026 Katrina McClain Award

Question for all y'all expert historians of UConn WBB - can a player win a positional award and POY in the same season?

Yes. Bird, DT, Bueckers all did for UCONN. (Leiberman). These other awards (Drysdale, Miller, McClain, Leslie) didn't start til 2018.

(not actually a historian, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last fall)

Here's the complete list of the Katrina McClain power forward Mid-Season Top 10 Watch List.

I would imagine so because this award is for a specific position, while NPOY is for the overall best player, so two different criteria IMO.

A lot of nice players but realistically the only ones in the conversation for making an All America team are Joyce Edwards and Toby Fournier. Strong is the easy runaway pick here.
