Sarah scored her 1000th point tonight

Congratulations!! You will be on the wall and have a shot at being the top scorer for Uconn in their history. As a side note, I found out that the game you scored your 1000th point in was the LARGEST point differential in the history of Uconnj and ND. Another record. GO SARAH!!!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!!

off top of my head, I'd say she's on pace for about ~2500 career

that would put her ahead of everyone except Maya and Stewie

obv that assumes continuing the current pace, which may be too high or too low

.-.
Off the top of my head, I'm guessing that she would have reached the milestone in the vicinity of 55 games if she wasn't playing on a team where probably 80% of the games last year and 99% of the games this year were such that she could have left the bench in the 3rd Qtr, gone to the locker room, taken a shower and dressed before the final buzzer went off I'm sure one of our stat folks can find a points per minute number for Sarah and use maybe 36-37 minutes as a game measure to see how many games it would have taken her to get to her MM/ PB equivalent. It would certainly be close to the 55 of MM and PB.

I think she will finish closer to 2700 because next year her scoring should eclipse 20 ppg. She will score another 300-350 this season, then 1400 the next two combined.

So, does anyone have the stats to show how many FG attempts it took Maya, Paige and Sarah as Geno wondered in the post game presser? Sarah is pretty efficient and I am sure Maya was just or almost as efficient.

Ok, so I did the analysis as I actual had most of the data. The salient details are:
Maya 55 g 29.3 min FG .545 (407/747) 3 pt-.421 (110/261) FT .707 (87/123) PPG 18.4, 8.1 Reb, 3.3 Assists, 1.8 TOs, A-TO 1.7, Blk 1.6, Stl 1.7
Paige 55 g 28.7 min FG .529 (392/741) 3 pt-.439 (98/223) FT .814 (188/231) PPG 18.3, 4.5 Reb, 4.7 Assists, 2.1 TOs, A-TO 2.1, Blk 0.6, Stl 2.0
Sarah 59 g 28.2 min FG .592 (416/703) 3 pt-.396 (89/225) FT .796 (90/113) PPG 17.1 8.7 Reb, 3.9 Assists, 1.6 TOs, A-TO 2.4, Blk 1.7, Stl 2.7

Maya 55 games (1+ season: 38+17) 747 shots
Paige 55 games (2+ seasons: 17+29+9) 741 shots
Sarah 59 games (1+ season: 40+19) 703 shots

So Geno was right, Sarah was/is more efficient.

There is only about a 1 minute difference from most (Moore) to least (Strong). As for FG per game:
Moore = 18.3
Bueckers = 17.5
Strong = 16.8
As for their whole careers I know that Moore comfortably has the record of averaging over 18 FG per game. Stewart and Bueckers were 16+. I will guess that Strong will average a little over 17 for her career, which should enable her to pass Stewart, but probably not Moore.

Thank you DefenseBB for the analysis, it was fantastic. I also believe that if she didn't sit out the game in the 3rd quarter so much , she would have hit 1000 points in 52/53 games. GO SARAH!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!

What I still hear Geno saying not sure when but I think after the the first day of practice or even before was how he could tell immediately that Sarah is unique and just has an innate ability for all facets of the game. That from someone who has been coaching for over 40 years and mentoring some of the best players ever to play the game. Sarah could be setting all records.

From these data, I computed each players eFG% and TS% over their first 1000 point games. These are both sort of shooting efficiency stats. eFG% only measures field goals, weighting 3pt shots more than 2pt shots. TS% factors in free throw shooting. Neither of the stats are particularly illuminating, other than confirming Sarah's greater shooting efficiency as measured by both stats.

eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 x 3PM) / FGA

Sarah = 65.5%
Maya = 61.8%
Paige = 59.5%

TS% = Points/(2x (FGA + 0.44 x FTA))

Sarah = 66.4%
Maya = 62.4%
Paige = 59.3%

Which of the stats folks have computed in this thread so far actually measure shooting "efficiency"? Well, they all do from somewhat different perspectives.

One thing I would speculate about, for which we have sparse data, is that Paige, because she was playing guard in all her first 55 games, probably took shots from a longer average distance than Sarah and Maya. That alone would likely pull down any combo shooting percentage metric relative to Sarah and Maya, who likely had more low paint scores on post plays and rebound putbacks.

Their career 3-pt percentages
Maya 40.5
Paige 41.6
Sarah. 41.1
About equal I'd say

Thanks. But that's not what I was referring to.

I mean that we don't know the average distance of the players' 2pt shots. For example, if a lot more of Sarah and Maya's makes were layup low post shots or putbacks versus Paige's having to make midrange two-point shots, Paige's simple and more advanced shooting percentage stats would suffer comparatively from that alone. Backcourt players typically shoot lower percentages on FGs than frontcourt players.

The fact that Paige's total FG% is only a fraction of a point less than Sarah's and Maya's is a tribute to her overall shooting accuracy (and efficiency) from all distances, particularly if she did indeed shoot shots from a further average distance than the other two. There's no statistical way to know this for certain that I'm aware of, but it seems a reasonable assumption given the floor positions all three mostly played.

Different perspective: Note that Paige took about twice as many FTAs as Sarah and Maya. That means she drew a lot more fouls on opponents. Drawing fouls has nothing to do with how many games to 1000 points, but I'm just noting that that is a valuable basketball contribution itself, in addition to whatever free throw points are scored after drawing the fouls.

.-.
With Azzi graduating Sarah may get a few extra minutes of scoring opportunity next year, especially for OOC games, probably not for BE games. Then again, maybe not. It doesn't seem like anyone is getting extra minutes this year because Paige is gone.
