Better yet his defensive reboundingOr we needed his rim protection, which no one else provided at that high of a level, more than we needed his mediocre three points shooting on a team with high level shooters.
Agree. Castle did ok shooting 3's at the combine but not his job to hunt 3's in the game (that was Spencer and Newton's job as they were better at it), Karaban could drive but Castle was better at it and had smaller defender so Castle drove more.Because we clearly didn’t need it to win games…….
I just looked up his career Per Game Rebounding stats for 3 years as a Husky:Better yet his defensive rebounding
So move him further away from the basket and out of position?I just looked up his career Per Game Rebounding stats for 3 years as a Husky:
ORB 0.8
DRB 1.2
TRB 2.0
Not sure that qualifies as "needing his defensive" or offensive rebounding. This is clearly in need of improvement going forward.
Yes they did, and, yes they do.So move him further away from the basket and out of position?
I didn’t claim he was a great defensive reb
They needed his defensive rebounding
In the biggest games they got it
Agree on the FT translation, but he did improve and oddly, always missed the same way (back rim). Has a great stroke, is always on line, just doesn’t have the depth thing down.Free throws are by far the #1 predictor of 3 point shooting ability translating from college to the NBA. And he did improve a bit but he was still in the 60s for the latter half of the season, it was a weakness. And he's always been able to shoot 3's in workouts and warmups, but in game it's never really shown up
I'm gonna stop because I'm not trying to downplay Donovan, but some posters (not you) are just living in a fantasy land with their posts in this thread
It’s really not a controversial take. He shot better on way higher volume, including stretches where he was shooting it pretty well. You have still not provided any facts to back up this opinion.
Your constant nasty smearing of this player says more about him than you. You suck.
Yes, his four minutes did it, not the 34 minutes that Edey had to wrestle DC.Whatever limitations SJ had last year, I'll always remember that couple of minutes when he made Edey dizzy.

Reminds me of this scene in Airplane with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. "Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes." Classic.I'm guessing you haven't been chasing Clingan up and down a court yet this AM.
I thought Samson showed decent passing instincts last year, not as good as DC but DC is arguably the best passing C we've had so not fair to compare him to that standard.
Both sides were on display in the championship game. He bamboozled Edey for back to back pick-and-roll dunks, but also committed 5 fouls in 5 minutes. This kinda went off the rails but... Samson kind is what he is at this point.
Pros
- Incredibly bouncy rim runner that has massive lob gravity on offense
- Covers insane amount of space with mobility and length on defense - great help D
- Speed/athleticism gives opposing bigs fits with conditioning and focus
- Incredible change of pace
Cons
- very poor rebounder for height
- Cannot anchor against strength at all, causes major foul problems
- Limited offensive skillset (pass, dribble, etc)
Looking forward and hoping that an extra 20-25 lbs will allow him to at least not get pushed around as much underneath and possibly with rebounding - thought much of rebounding is instinct and Sam hasn't show that.
clingan didn't put on good weight...I don't care if he gets bigger. But he does need to get stronger to be a better defender. Some guys can do that without adding much weight. He will get naturally bigger as he ages. Happens to us all. Force feeding weight doesn't always produce the desired results.
Clingan got bigger and it hurt his game.
exactlyclingan didn't put on good weight...
He's gaining MUSCLE, not fat. Both sides were on display in the championship game. He bamboozled Edey for back to back pick-and-roll dunks, but also committed 5 fouls in 5 minutes.
If he can gain weight and maintain his explosiveness and quick-twitch leaping ability and become a capable fundamentally sound defender in the post, he has a chance to start. If he ends up in between where his quickness and vertical suffer, but he still can't defend opposing bigs, he'll be unplayable. Hopefully at the very least he can be a 15 minute bench big, though that puts a lot of pressure on Reed.
It’s still weight and the coaching staff will still have to balance gaining muscle and strength to make sure it doesn’t cut down on his explosiveness. He's gaining MUSCLE, not fat.
Damn kids !At my heaviest, 230, I was slow. Now at 170 I move much faster. At least falling down. I can be on the ground in lightning speed which is expected for a guy approaching 66.
