Vinny flies out and LJ singles. Melley is up with 2 outs and a runner on 1st.

LJ gets picked off. That's four guys that have gotten out on the basepaths. Holy cow. 6-5, bottom 9.

This announcer has no idea what is going on. Painful to listen to this in such a close game.

Ferriter strikes out, but the pitch got away from the catcher so we have a runner on 2nd now. 1 out.

Gawd... Give them credit for at least broadcasting a non-league game in the middle of March ;)

Damn pick-offs!

2 outs now after a flyout, and SHSU almost gets thrown out at 1st...my god SHSU has played poorly.

The kid that hit the HR is up though. Get out of this.

I feel bad for saying that. He did better in the bottom of the 9th inning, but was perplexed about whether Ferriter was out or not.

Definitely surprised that Penders brought in Tabakman in such a tight situation, especially when you would think Feehan, Jolin, and Moore are all available. I wonder if he is trying to turn Tabakman into the closer.

Jim Penders said in the post game interview with Chris Jones that they are being careful with Ryan Moore, and that he was not available. It sounds like he probably won't pitch in tomorrow's games.

My guess, in using Tabakman, is he will start on Wed. That gives him 5 days rest, and by pitching only 2 innings it keeps him somewhat sharp for Wednesday's start.
If Tabakman does start Wednesday, my guess is Butler starts on Tuesday. We'll probably see some of the freshmen in middle relief in these games.

Up 2-0 early in the 3rd inning against Sam Houston State. Once again, the bearkats are forced to bring their relief in early. Some very nice hitting so far.

Eppler in for SHSU, who pitched brilliantly against Rice. Bases loaded with one out....blow this game open!!!

2-0 after 3. Cross is pitching spectacularly, but we need more run support. Cannot sit on a 2 run lead.

5-0 now, top 5. We ripped that Eppler kid, which makes me sad that my Owls couldn't do the same Wednesday. If Cross keeps it up, this game is over.

Top 6, still 5-0. Terrific performance by Cross and pretty much all of the freshman.

Carson Cross is looking good through five innings. One downer is that Connor David came out of the game after getting injured (shoulder?) trying to score on a head first slide into home. Personally, I always thought you were a lot less likely to be hurt if you slid feet first.

Bottom of the 7th, still 5-0 UConn. Offense has stranded a couple runners in scoring position, which is unfortunate.

Cross goes 7.1 scoreless innings, Butler comes in to get out of some trouble in the 8th inning. I would let him pitch the 9th, saving Feehan and Jolin for the second game. With Butler pitching today, I suspect that we will see at a freshmen start at Central Connecticut.

Rough game for the top of the order...Mazzilli, Siena, and Ferriter are a combined 2-13.

8-0 UConn in the bottom of the 9th. 1 out, no one on. Great effort by the pitching and defense and Testani was a monster at the plate.

8-0 final. Terrific performance. A sweep would be an excellent surprise; a loss in the next game would be acceptable.

7 in a row! 8-3 record overall.

Melley and Sandburg have been terrific in this game....each have 3 hits. Our freshman have looked great this weekend vs. quality team on the road.

4-3 SHSU, bases loaded, 2 outs, top 9. Yavarone, who has struggled mightily today, is up. He's due, I feel.

WILD PITCH SCORES A RUN! 4-4.

Yavarone strikes out. Brutal series for him.

We played well in both games. Quality series overall. SHSU desperately wants this last game and have played their asses off. Hopefully we can get a sweep.

SHSU hits a 2 run shot off Feehan to win in the 9th inning. Good team win by SHSU.

8-4 now, with a fairly easy schedule coming up. In eight days, we may well be ranked.
