Just saw the news that Campbell has passed away.

He was defending the in-bounds pass from Burrell to Tate that resulted in the most famous shot in UConn history (the shot, 1990 NCAA Sweet 16, vs. Clemson).

I remember that day like yesterday, watched it in Gampel, and the whole campus went nuts that night.

Campbell was a good man and had a nice NBA career.

May he Rest in Peace.

There was a story that a number of people at the Bushnell screamed with joy during a performance of whatever they were forced to go see.

Remember watchin that game from about 15 rows up from Scotty when he launched is Hail Mary (or Hail Tate). I was surrounded by Clemson fans who were expressing very colorful language at me with their backs turned to the play. Elden Campbell and Dale Davis twin towers combo was all anyone talked about until the shot. RIP Elden

Yeah, the Tate George shot which resulted in the stunned facial expression of Elden Campbell is what I remember Elden for the most. He had the "WTF" expression of being stunned. However, I also remember him on the 2004 Detroit Pistons team that won the title over the Lakers and giving Rip Hamilton his NBA title. He and Rip used to have a pregame routine as Rip was introduced in the starting lineup. Elden was a sold NBA player in the 90s and early 2000s

RIP Elden and enjoy the fruits of heaven-you left us too soon.

I was in the section behind the inbounds, behind the basket. The Clemson band was there as well, a small version.

I was in the student section in front of the basket that Tate was shooting at. Scotty lofted the pass, and like a fan in the outfield bleachers expecting a home run ball that then falls down into the outfielder's glove, I thought that Scotty overthrew the pass and it was coming out of bounds into our seats.

Seconds later we were running around on the court.

I was there, the shot came straight into my face. I remember thinking this will count, because the buzzer sounded when the ball was in the air, And then it went in, wow (today they probably review that play for 10 minutes)

48 hours later, we gave it back

RIP Elden

His expression after Tate’s shot is burned into my memory. Of course a game later I had the same expression.

RIP Elden

You and I may have been in the same section!
