You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just across the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem
He live with the bottle that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
See I remember we were driving, driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
We go cruising entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
And I work in the market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs
See I remember we were driving, driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me'd find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
See I remember when we were driving, driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can fly away?
You gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way
Love this song, definitely sad though.

This ol' airport's got me down
It's no earthly good to me
And I'm stuck here on the ground
As cold and drunk as I can be
You can't jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I best be on my way
In the early mornin' rain
You can't jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I best be on my way
In the early mornin' rain

How about Thomas Rhett’s “Marry me”?.

Yeah, she wanna get married,
But she ain’t gonna marry me.

I saw him perform in Albany last night. Sad song.

Terms OF My Surrender by John Hiatt

When the moon is rising and the night is still, some of my delusions have the power to kill.

Sometimes love can be so wrong like a fat man in a thong as he walks shamelessly away.

I can be rough sometimes. I can be tender, but I can't negotiate the terms of my surrender.

I love you too much baby, go on and have your way with me.

You must remember this A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh The fundamental things apply As time goes by And when two lovers woo They still say, "I love you" On that you can rely No matter what the future brings As time goes by Moonlight and love songs Never out of date Hearts full of passion Jealousy and hate Woman needs man And man must have his mate That no one can deny it's still the same old story A fight for love and glory A case of do or die The world will always welcome lovers As time goes by Moonlight and love songs Never out of date Hearts full of passion Jealousy and hate Woman needs man And man must have his mate That no one can deny it's still the same old story A fight for love and glory A case of do or die The world will always welcome lovers As time goes by........

I love the song and the movie. But in and of itself, the song is more hopeful than sad. Of course, that is just my opinion!

A very upbeat song sonically. A real downer lyrically. "The Azalea Festival" by John and Mary.

(John Lombardo/Mary Ramsey)

"Like strangers on the road, a distant view
I saw someone who looked like you
My blood ran chill as snow, my body shook
I'd only found where not to look
I'd hung the sky with stars, in hopes you came
I called you by your childhood name
Tears raining in my heart, a funeral kiss
I never thought it'd end like this

Not you alone you won't delay
Or wound the dawning of the day
Not you alone this voice is screaming
A ray of hope, get up stop dreaming
With joined hands and downcast eyes, the curious crowd
Very angry and very loud
The saddest of farewells, the pouring rain
A ticket on an empty train

I am too near so much to lose
I wonder how she'll take the news
Like emeralds from the sky, the green pier lights
How children would have loved those sights
Hearts ticking through the night, the morning bells
The wait for death in shore hotels

Not you alone... I am too near...
Coffins with sails set by the brave
Sharp pointed spears around each grave"

James Tally - "Deep Country Blues"

Bright Sunflowers, they quickly die
and fade away, on a withered vine
Our simple dreams, they held them cheap
Now torn and broken, lay at our feet

Nothing sadder than a tribute song..especially a brilliant song to a hero for most. Elton said he rarely plays it live because of the feelings it evokes. All the lyrics are well-done, but when I hear the chorus, I choke up:

And I've been knocking
But no one answers
And I've been knocking
Most all the day
Oh, and I've been calling
Oh, hey hey Johnny
Can't you come out to play

For the children who died at Newtown

Solace

There are the fields we’ll walk across
In the snow lightly falling.
…..In the snow lightly falling,
There are the fields we’ll walk across.

There are the houses we’ll walk toward
In the snow lightly falling.
…..In the snow lightly falling,
There are the houses we’ll walk toward.

There are the faces we once kissed
In the snow lightly falling.
…..In the snow lightly falling,
There are the faces we once kissed.

Incredible how we laughed and cried
In the snow lightly falling.
…..In the snow lightly falling,
Incredible how we laughed and cried.

Incredible how we’ll meet again
In the snow lightly falling.
…..In the snow lightly falling,
Incredible how we’ll meet again.

No small hand will go unheld
In the snow lightly falling
…..In the snow lightly falling,
No small hand will go unheld.

No voice once heard is ever lost
In the snow lightly falling.
…..In the snow lightly falling,
No voice once heard is ever lost.
