Sabrina Ionescu (merged thread)

What? Is that even possible/plausible?
1) More spin => more likely to miss?
2) Wouldn't it be easier to miss a layup and get the rebound?
3) Does she really have that much control on her 3pt shot that she can both miss on purpose and control where the rebound ends up?
4) If this is possible, why doesn't she miss all her 2nd free throws, get the rebound, and then sink a 2?

$500? An early prototype of Jeopardy? ;)

I’m starting to learn I have an older audience than I’m used to around here. Just thought I’d throw out some vintage numbers to make y’all feel comfortable...

What are non-vintage numbers "pray tell" (vintage saying!)?

Well regular Jeopardy is $200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 these days and double is $400, 800, 1200, 1600, and 2000.

Just throwing it back to 2000? 2001? Ish.

You know, vintage years... ;)

Doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things, and shes certainly had a POY worthy season regardless if she admits to stat stuffing, but it cheapens the accomplishment IMO. Similar to Courtney Paris's double double streak. Truth is, a lot of streaks/records by individual players have this element to it opposed to being more authentic or occurring naturally.

Hey Moses Malone padded his rebound stats by purposely missing several point blank shots in a row throughout his career, and that was decades ago.

Ionescu is a bit of an odd...dare I say Duck? She marches to the beat of her own drummer I think. Agree probably not something you admit, also a bit skeptical that she has control over exactly where a missed 3 is going to go.

If anything, this will help her sealed the NPOY award. She is basically saying that I am so good I can control shots and rebounds. Nobody else can do that!

Not sure how I feel about Ionescu’s admission. A few years ago when Gabby needed one more assist for her triple double, Geno left her in longer in a blowout win until she got the assist on a pass to Nat. To Gabby’s credit she had no idea she was chasing a triple double and it’s not like she had to miss a shot to achieve it.

Can't believe this thread. No way she tried to miss to get the rebound. The announcers threw out this 'possibility' as an entertaining aside, she saw it was a joke and went with it. That is consistent with her off beat sense of humor.

Seriously, I'm more impressed with the idea that she could control the trajectory of a rebound off of a 3. If she blew a layup to be able to collect the rebound, Tina Charles style, that would be one thing. This is impressive.

I tell ya, if people genuinely believe that she calculated a miss **on a 3-pointer** just to collect a rebound, then I didn't realize I'd wandered into the annual convention of the Arizona Beachfront Property Owners Association.

The exact quote in the article

“It’s awesome to get one in the tournament. Probably still won’t get recognized because ESPN never recognizes women’s sports or getting triple-doubles, but I’m just happy I was able to do it in front of the home crowd and with everyone supporting me.”

Is Sabrina scolding ESPN and other media outlets because they're NOT promoting her?

She should count herself lucky she plays in a part of the country where women's sports is generally valued.

I hate the whip around coverage and the blacked out games shown only in a couple states. I'm with Sabrina. Each women's game needs to be shown in its entirety.

Were not all games on ESPN app?

EDIT: Saying that, I have always thought ESPN could have taken a page from the Men's//CBS tourney, using CBS, Tru, TBS and TNT to show all games. Not that ESPN does not have channels to their disposal. To have dedicated channels to show each game is what should be done...instead relegating fans to scamper to streaming devices and apps. There I said my piece.

As stated on this board, the whip around coverage is not really whip around, They generally stay with the primary game through the second half and switch only when the game is really out of hand. And all the games are on ESPN3 (Free on WATCH ESPN).
