USA went into Sunday's matches completely over confident knowing they had the Ryder Cup won. Europe never gave up the fight and Team USA folded. Stricker and Furyk proved to be poor Captain's picks. Tiger may have won a couple of his matches if Stricker supported him.
Strick needed to put something on that approach, bring it in high and soft on the number. Couldn't do it - now he's got a 40-footer(?). Gotta hope for a Kaymer 3-putt.
I hate to pile on (not) but this was probably the biggest choke ever. Love tried to brush it off by comparing it to the US comeback in 99 but back then the US had home court advantage.
Stricker and Furyk may go down as the worst Captain's picks ever and Woods should be embarrassed. The three of them combined for 1 1/2 points out of a possible 11.
Two data points that stuck out: EUR steamrolled the day's first five matches 5-0. And there was only 1 match halved the entire weekend - Tiger's singles match, which by that time was meaningless. I haven't looked it up but IIRC there are usually at least a handful of halves when you look at all 3 days taken together.
Rose's long bomb on 17 and additional huge putts on 16 and 18 were monstrous.
Furyck fading to Garcia and losing a point with a bogey-bogey finish was crushing.
But Poulter going 3-0 on Friday and Saturday gave them a rallying point, and hope. Hope begat belief. Belief became victory. Ian Poulter was E-P-I-C and IMO he earned more points for the EUR side than just(!) the four he got with his own clubs. Simply unreal.
Can't stand him most of the time but have to take my hat off to him today.
Great win by the Europeans. It was kinda fun watching the US completely fall apart after building such a huge lead. The Europeans definitely deserved the win and their incredible clutch play and joy at the comeback was fun to watch...
Anyone could see Furyk's meltdown coming from a mile away. He's the biggest choker in the game these days. I think he's hitting the 5-Hour Energy too hard.
