That's unbelievably irrational. The ACC decision to invite Pitt and Syracuse occurred before Coach P coached a single game at UConn. It had nothing to do with who was coaching each school at the present time.

I will miss RU too and wish them the best of luck in the B1G. Their fanbase have been yearning to be in that conference for ages. I hope the two schools will play annually OOC. Think we had a budding rivalry (remember we only played against them one decade, so it would have really taken off in the coming years).

I can understand this sentiment, but I think it's not the deciding factor. You're talking about a two year window. If UConn had a 60k stadium with a fanbase to fill it and good ratings on TV we would have a better shot at a Big Ten invite, maybe neck and neck with Rutgers, even with an average-ish record. We are probably going to get an invite to the ACC over Louisville because of our TV market, even though they had a better record the last two years. Winning more would help UConn's profile sure... but that's more of a long-term factor than a short term one. If the NNBE stays together and UConn is stuck there for 5-10 years then winning in football becomes more of a factor.

The way I see it is that we're "new money". UConn, more than any other school discussed/rumored, has to prove itself as being a football program that can build on its success and make money. UConn really needed a bowl season in the past two years after its first ever BCS appearance to show the "old money" schools that we're a penny stock ready to explode. Struggling with MAC teams and declining attendance does nothing to improve our chances.

Plus, the crux of my statement is about this year's realignment wave (the one we're currently in). I wasn't talking about the Pitt/Cuse to the ACC year. I'm talking about why we, right now, aren't on the B1G's list or invited to the ACC until somebody (read: Maryland & maybe someone else) leaves first.

They are likely to just continue to be a laughingstock for another hundred years in a stronger conference. Think Indiana, but not good in basketball or non-revenue sports.

But good for them that they found a safe landing.

Don't underestimate the value of good cash stream. If RU moves to the B1G they take a big step up, in recruiting, in facilities, in the coaches that they can afford, even in academic prestige. I agree with our resident ESPN shill here.

I agree 100%. I find it comical when I read "Rutgers is going to suck" in the B1G comments here and on other sites. They've been competitive in the Big East for the past decade, for the most part. They're located in an outstanding recruiting area and will now be able to keep more of their own backyard kids home. They will absolutely, positively hold a recruiting advantage over every other northeast/mid-Atlantic school in the ACC/Big East once they're in the B1G and will gain attention from their high profile games against OSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc. Over time (read: a few seasons), they'll begin to reap the recruiting benefits from that and probable stadium expansion to house the enormous visiting fanbases of B1G schools. I think that this year's Rutgers team can beat anybody in this year's B1G, with the possible exception of OSU. After a few seasons of top recruiting classes, they will be able to continue to do that.

But the problem is they will still be competing against schools with the same cash stream from their conference, but a higher total cash stream because they have more fans and more support from their school from their state. If Rutgers goes 2-7 and 3-6 in the Big Ten during a down period, or hit with injuries, do they still have fans?

Rumor has it that Rutger's imaginary waiting list has grown to 150,000. They will announce a stadium expansion project that will give them 175,000 seats, leaving room for further waiting list growth.

They will also eliminate their English department in cost cutting measures but will bring said department back after winning their first NC.

Pretty much this. Not sure who lucked out more, Rutgers or Utah. Utah had to love Texas to the Pac 12 falling apart. Rutgers is moving up from the Big East to the Big 10.

To answer the burning question, Rutgers will be a Leader. Apparently they didn't qualify for Legend status. I heard this on the radio *cringes and waits for ridicule*. I was listening to the Maryland press conference and afterward while the host was analyzing the move, he said Rutty and UMD will be in Penn St and Ohio St's division, which apparently is the Leaders.
