Doesn't the Rutgers AD know it's not always a good idea to extend a coach so early? :)

While I'm very happy for Pikiell, does 18-11 and 9-9 in conference, and his first season of success at Rutgers, deserve that kind of extension? When you haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 1991 maybe it does. Lower bar at Rutgers than UConn, I guess.

Less than 8 weeks ago people here were debating him vs Hurley, who’d you rather.... he’s a great coach for them. Good to lock him up

They may not make it this year either. 1-10 road/neutral record...

Edited: Rutgers is actually 18-11 overall and 9-9 in the conference.

What I'm saying is that if Hurley is 18-11 and 9-9 in the Big East in 2021-2022 would everyone be happy if UConn gave him a 2 year extension at $4 million a season?

Am I a bad person if I just can’t get all jolly about RU success regardless of who is involved?
Not at all, you're only a dead person cuz you can't see it as a threat about Steve Michael and not Rutgers

And now, the UNdictated version:

Not at all, you're only a bad person because you don't see it as a thread about Steve Pikiel, and not Rutgers.

Can not be happier for Steve and the success he is having! Something I predicted when I wanted him here at the time of the Ollie hiring.

No attack HS just conversation. :) This is not at all his first season of success anywhere. He has done nothing but win and progress at every step of his coaching career. Obviously the school and many others see the value. Do be reminded they are in The Big 10 which ignorantly is actually 14 but .... They get a ton of more money than UConn can possibly think of for some time. A couple of doners alone could pick up this tab.

The conference has 6 teams in the top 25 and they have lost to nobody by no more than a slim margin. Steve has them a threat every game. Oh goodness should we bring up Karl Hobbs who knew the inside and when to jump ship ... And where to land... ;)

A bit more from south of here...

The bar at rutgers is dumpster fire, so if they’re having a decent season and it feels like the program is headed in the right direction, they’ll overreact — and given their history, it’s the right move.

Good for Steve, deserves it.

Having said that they were what, 17-5 or something? Not a good finish for what looked like a definite NCAA team.

Not to be confrontational but that isn't exactly true. 259–240 (.519) career record through today. Just for comparison purposes Hurley is 183–134 (.577).

Good for Rutgers but my only point is at UConn I would hope they wouldn't be giving him that kind of extension for that kind of production. That's all. Good for Pikiell and good for Rutgers.

At Rutgers? For basketball? They should erect a statue of him.

Grew up playing hoops against pikell as kids and through high school. Nicest guy you’ll ever meet. Happy for him.

I don't find your facts confrontational at all but stats do not always tell the story behind them. For those that may not realize it Steve's first few years @ Stony Brook were transitioning to division 1 basketball. Some might also consider him doing the same thing at Rutgers. ;)

I love Dan and I am very glad he is here. His coaching style is something I admire very much. Looking at the numbers, nobody would be impressed but I would still cast my vote for him as AAC Coach Of The Year.

Let's not forget Karl Hobbs is there too. It's hard not to root for them...just a little bit.

The Rutgers administration must have been really impressed by the program's only win outside Piscataway this season - a thrilling OT victory at 5-20 Northwestern.
