This guy

Edit: Looks like he deleted his tweet. He called Duke a dynasty.

Their last title win before this one was 5 years ago, and the one before that one came 8 years earlier. How the hell is that a dynasty?

Yeah, that's just an ignorant statement on Rothstein's part.

Consistent, sustained excellence? Sure.
Dynasty? Come the duck* on.

4 titles / 16 years = 0.25 titles per year.

5 titles / 24 years = 0.208 titles per year.

GET SOME FACTS, THEN COME BACK AND SEE ME.
Duke has a much more impressive history pre 1999

What about since 1999?
UConn has been better than Duke most definitely. But a dynasty usually entails a longstanding excellence which Duke has unfortunately had longer than UConn. I hate Duke as much as most here, but just trying to put it into perspective

Uconn has been excellent since 99 but some people here need to realize college basketball didnt start in 99. Duke has 5 national titles and have been to numerous f4s over the last 25 years they deserve their respect. It doesnt tarnish what uconn has done and doesnt make us any lesser a program.

As much as a fanbase may hate a team, it is impossible to discredit the many years that they were better than us

Uconn has been excellent since 1990 and although we didnt win titles our excellence has been going on awhile now. But we must remember when we were taking our first steps toward being elite duke was winning national titles.

Dynasty has more of a short-term connotation. UCLA in the 60s.

A sports dynasty is a team that dominates their sport or league for an extraordinary length of time.
This is why not too many teams can be called a dynasty

"Dynasty" usually connotes an extraordinary concentration of championships: 3 in a row, 4 in 6, 5 in 10 even.

Two championships spaced 6 years apart, three in 15, or, most generously, five in 25, is nowhere close.

No - extraordinary length of time has nothing to do with it. It's almost complete and total dominance over a short time frame that is usually referred to as a dynasty. Islanders in the 80s had a dynasty (4 in a row). Steelers in the late 70s (4 in 6). As much as I hate to admit it, Yankees in the late 90s (4 in 5).

Indiana and UNC have five NCAA titles but have never had a dynasty. Nor Kansas. Duke teetered on the edge of one from 1988-94 when they were in the FF every year and won twice. Arkansas maybe stopped it with the 1994 title game.

George Mason - Elite 8 after beating UNC. The others not so much, no comparison there!
The comparison is we also went home after losing to a team that we had no business losing to. End of story.
