So, four scholarships this year? Let's be honest about the problem.
After 2006, the team lost: Boone, Gay, Williams, Armstrong, Anderson, Brown, Nelson
They returned: Marcus Johnson, Jeff Adrien, Craig Austrie, Rod Garrison, AJ Price*
They brought in a huge class: Jerome Dyson, Stanley Robinson, Hasheem Thabeet, Doug Wiggins, Curtis Kelley, Jonathan Mandeldove, and Ben Eaves. That's 7 players in one class. 2 guards, 3 forwards, 2 centers.
All of them wanted playing time (and there was a lot to offer), but because they all couldn't have minutes, many of these kids took off. Garrison and Eaves were gone at the end of the year. Johnson, Wiggins, and Kelley would leave eventually.
Without balance in on a roster, you are going to have too much turnover. If Kelley came in and Adrien was a Junior, he probably assumes he can bide his time and shine. When he's a Sophomore?
We have four scholarships to give out. They should bank two. But they really need to find some kids who don't mind playing back-up for their career and give them a scholarship (for APR and class balance).
