Rodney Purvis transfer rumour

It's all over twitter and Purvis has retweeted and tweeted a few things about transferring, so it looks legit.

He needs a release though before he starts talking to other schools

Here's why it wasn't a good idea for Ollie to "follow." Gottfried can always release him to all schools except UConn.

Good point. Wouldn't that just be a kick in the nuts after the rumors of him transferring were true.

upstater- is that even legal to do?
Yes, schools give conditional releases all the time. Would be unusual for him to randomly block UCONN though

block where he can go? Yea, Bo Ryan was in a big controversy last year because he had a huge list of schools that he was trying to block one kid from going to.

Yes, coaches do it all the time. And the fact is Gottfried hates UConn. He openly blamed his job loss at Alabama on Calhoun "cheating."

Really? How so? Stanley Robinson related?

Thanks I appreciate the info- I will add it to the list of "things that do not sound right" to me when it comes to college ball.

I don't know the background, but now that you mention Stanley, I wonder if that was it. When the investigation came down in 2009, Gottfried said, "Yeah, well, it's all good for the people who cheat and who are later spanked lightly on the hand, but what about the people they play by using unfair advantages? Part of my firing at Alabama was from losing big games to teams like UConn."

He was referring to the loss in 2004. That loss apparently established a perception about him and his program.

Geez. Sore loser much? He's from the SEC...if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'!

(Side note...who the hell were we even accused of getting by "cheating" on that 2004 team? CV came after Self left Kansas. No one wanted Okafor, Boone, Armstrong. Ben wanted to go to Duke but wasn't recruited. I don't get it...)

Is this real? I think that loss established that when good teams hit every jump shot they blow people out.

Now I'm pretty much expecting Gottfried to block him from transferring to UConn.

It is very real. He was on ESPN when he said that.

But who is shooting the jump shot? Did Calhoun call Rashad every night to lure him from Florida to cold Storrs? Did he use a campus landline? At the very least, he could have used a cell and ditched it!

God we kicked their ass in that game. Rashad and Ben were absolutely on fire. One of the most enjoyable UCONN games ive ever seen in person.

It's interesting if only because you rarely hear coaches or ex-coaches call people out by name like that. If he'd just said "cheaters" that'd be one thing, but to call out UConn is pretty amazing.
And seriously, there was no way Alabama was winning that game under any circumstances, so shut up, Mark.

It's true that phone calls represent the greatest threat to the integrity of college athletics, which is why UConn is not in the ACC today.

Gottfried was employed by ESPN at the time. They were discussing the UConn allegations and investigation. He didn't mention them out of thin air and go off the cuff. At the end of a 2 or 3 minute discussion, he went on his little screed.

@Follow24Hodge: I'm salty that we didn't do everything to keep RP! But if he's going to #UConn that's a good choice. Kevin Ollie's a star on the rise.
