No hard feelings here. i have some experience as a walkon as a football player at CCSU and then transferred after a year to play DIII basketball. I'm saying patriot league basketball to me is the level walk ons at top DI schools can play at bottom of the barrel DI.you make it sound like its so easy to make the uconn mens basketball team as a walk on. you pal have it all wrong!

A Patriot League team beat Duke in the NCAA tournament this year. Duke has like 27 McDonald's All-Americans and the best player on the court in that game played for the Patriot League team.

If you played pickup against Kyle Bailey and came away impressed, that's all well and good. But I would recommend you try and get in a game against the scholarship players - your mind will be blown.

I have played with DI players many times! in fact i use to come to gample and play pick up with alot of the uconn players and other DI players in past summers. The walk ons are serviceable just like i think RJ will be used this year.

You continue to avoid the point that was made earlier which refutes everything you've been saying. Blaney put our walk-ons in at the end of the St. John's game. I believe they had the ball for three possessions, and each possession ended with the ball getting stolen before they could cross half court. St. John's had nothing but freshman on their roster, and they weren't a particularly good team. Was it just an off day for the walk-ons?

Look at it this way: If Kyle Bailey is better than R.J. Evans in any way, shape, or form, how come his ass has been glued to the end of the bench for four years, while he was paying his own way? If the kid could play at this level, he would be out of his mind to accept the role of practice player at UConn over playing for free in a more prominent role at a smaller college.

Kyle was actually there for 5 seasons! don't believe me? look it up. i for one would rather be a uconn walk on then play in the patriot league even if i did get minutes. just being a walk on at uconn you get all the pecs of being on the team with gear and flying all over (maui) hotels, playing with nba players everyday and winning a national championship. i would take that any day then playing for holy cross college. i guess you just dont get it. being a walk on for uconn is probley one of the best things a college kid could be able to do!

Spot on...........hey let's not make this a Kyle Bailey thing junky. The kid plays hard in every practice I'm sure or JC would not have him on the team. He is a practice player and having seen a little pick up at Gampel he's a nice player for Western New England College or Salve Regina.....maybe Eastern or Southern CT......RJ Evans can play for the Huskies and make an impact in a game and he will. As much as they are hurting for players and bodies they wouldn't accept another walk-on.......He will get 15-120 minures in most games I bet.

Yes, but the point still holds that Evans is a better player than any walk on.

A Patriot League team also won at Arizona in the first round of the NIT this year too.

How do you know that? i have played with them. how do you make a elite college team and not be able to play if needed? Whos to say Bailey couldn't score 1,000 points at Holy Cross College? Im not to sure your correct on that one pal.

There are only two walk-ons in the last 20 years of UConn history which I would give a scholarship to before Evans: 1) Andre Drummond and 2) EJ Harrison. I am not even completely sure about Harrison, at the moment it would be a toss-up with me leaning toward Evans.

Kyle Bailey is not as good as any of the three above. Heck, Brendan Allen has a lot to prove before he is in EJ Harrison's shoes. Both Harrison and Drummond were unique situations.

The funny thing about this is i wasn't at all trying to make this post about kyle bailey. all i said was i don't think RJ is worth a scholarship offer to. i would have rather just have a walk-on play the mins i think he will get. maybe i am wrong about his mins maybe im not. we will see. It is all you people on here that are having a heart attack about basically sarcasm that i said. like i said before i guess we agree to disagree.

Ummmm... we still have 3 free scholarships to fill this year WITH RJ on board.

What other guys that are still available should we give the scholarship to?
RJ is a perfect fit for 1 year. And he won't hurt our APR like some other kid would that might possibly transfer.

I'm sorry sportsjunky, but your posts are just awful. Simply terrible. You put so much effort into them and even more trying to defend them when they are illogical and idiotic.

I'm sure you've got all the best intentions, but quit while you're behind.

Terrible? i would beg the differ but I guess you can be the judge of that. I cant judge your opinion. All i do is state logical things that my or may not happen. Everything that i say on this forum seems to bring controversy to everyone. I thought everyone has a right to their own option. i don't understand are we all suppose to agree with everything. if that's the case why even have a Men's Basketball discussion forum if we all have to agree with everything?

^ You are a crappy poster- well more boring and uninformed then crappy really.
Why don't you call off the experiment at post # 49. I think we can all agree that might be a good idea.

I'm sorry to say that 916 is spot on. Maybe you are well intentioned but some of your ideas just don't make much sense. We have more open ships than available players out there to fill them. RJ won't impact our 2013 recruiting since he only has 1 year of eligibility left. Why in the world would you want a walk-on who can't even play at this level when you can get a player who has 3 years of experience of D1 hoops. He's also the big guard this team has needed for quite some time to defend some of the bigger guards in the Big East. He'll have a moderate roll here at UConn while the walk-ons will enjoy their view from the bench.

You simply have a way of making my smartphone look really dumb with some of the things you post. With that said you have a right to post whatever you want like anyone else. Just don't be so shocked when people disagree with what you say. We're all supposed to be civilized on this board but sometimes we just can't help ourselves.

Can you understand what people are saying about this topic and realize how silly your logic is? Sometimes you just have to step up and admit when you are wrong. Trust me this is that time.

We will know how good this experience with giving RJ a Sponsorship by the time we get to league play.
