RIP Ryne Sandberg | The Boneyard

RIP Ryne Sandberg

I watched him play in a lot games. It seemed that when I was growing up the Cubs were taking part in the game of the week a lot on Saturday afternoons. He just played the game hard and at a time when second basemen were more speedy guys, who could field but had weaker arms, he was a big offensive threat at the position. And he could obviously still field his position well with his multiple gold gloves. I think he won 8 or 9 by the time he was done.

When I was growing up, the debate was, "Boggs, Mattingly or Sandberg?" Rest in peace.

Wow he was an idol of mine. Still have his 1983 Rookie card (I think it was 83). Seemed like the consummate player and nice guy you never heard a bad word about.
