RIP Fab Melo

Apparently passed away at 26 in his native Brazil. Very sad, know he never got to the league really but was a great player at Cuse that season.
He actually got in a few games with Boston in 2012/13.

What a POS.

cto used to be a regular poster here, and is not a bad person. EDIT: read a very nice person.

That said, the post above is certainly in bad taste.

EDIT: let us remember that we shouldn't be judged by our worst moments.

I spent a lot of time today thinking about how terrible college basketball has become.

I watched a day full of people making millions to coach and broadcast who can't understand simple concepts.

That someone would blame a player for vacating wins is pathetic. As if vacating results matters - it must mean the games didn't happen.

That they would mention it when someone dies in their mid-20's is disgusting.

My recollection is that this "joyce" or "cto" person has been a topic of conversation on this board before, and I think it followed the same script with a few posters bashing him/her or whining and then a couple other people coming to the rescue. Think it was something about the UConn/Cuse game in 2013.

My suspicion is that this person isn't much better than anyone else, though I don't think any harm was meant by it.

In regards to Melo, it is hard or me to fathom how the brain processes his death in the terms of an NCAA compliance book. Not only is that incredibly shallow for obvious reasons, but it's also distorted beyond measure. This was a kid from Brazil who was asked to assimilate to a completely foreign climate, both culturally and from a basketball standpoint, and on top of that he had to satisfy academic requirements at a fairly prestigious University just in order to fulfill his role in a cartel that returned his unpaid labor with a whiny coach, ungrateful fans, and a compliance team that scapegoated him because they couldn't do their job.

That the NCAA took their wins is about as meaningful as deleting your girlfriend's number from your phone after a break-up, and if Cuse fans don't want to acknowledge the pettiness of it all then I will. Fab Melo mattered to a lot of people because he was a part of our life, in some small ways, for five months five years ago. I remember paying $200 for one ticket to watch him play in Storrs, I remember him anchoring the best Syracuse team I've ever seen to a one-loss regular season, and I remember laughing hysterically when he was declared ineligible right before the NCAA Tournament. There are a lot of bad things out there, so many that it hits you a little bit harder than it should when the good ones go. College basketball players are great things, even when they wear the other jersey, and the chill I feel every time one of them dies (Andrew Smith of Butler comes to mind) is worth so much more than the ego of a fan who wants some form of validation. We were all part of the same story there for a little while and that matters a lot to me. I hope he's in a better place.

Joyce has never been the same since @Deepster hanged her. I blame him.

A few years ago a UConn fan in Syracuse posted that he got seats from a family member behind the SU bench. If I recall correctly he said he was going to wear his husky gear and maybe even torment JB. cto essentially doxxed him, revealing his real name to message board posters who started calling him at home and at work and threatening him. He was shocked and vowed never to post on a message board again. In the morning I'll look it up.

She's been a POS.

Looks like I posted about it three years ago. She rationalized her awful behavior then, too. Nice reading other teams' forums now

She came here and complained because some UConn fans heckled her on the way out of the XL in 2013. A projectile beverage may have been mentioned.

Well that's wrong. People should be able to show up and root for their team without being hassled.

True. I've been hassled every visiting arena I've been to though. I had blue cheese thrown at me for wearing UConn gear at the last game at Temple. Oddly enough except for the RAC in 2014. RU basketball fans are too depressed to hassle anyone. That was a very emotional game and night for UConn fans (i.e. The place probably sold out of bud light). Ironically enough that was supposed to be the last UConn Cuse game for "the foreseeable future and we've already played them twice in four years with I'm pretty sure a game next year too. But I digress.

I must be intimidating. Nobody has ever said boo to me. I yelled at some WVU fans the first time they came to Rentschler and I still feel bad.

Go to some football games in the south - the game at NC State they fed us, complimented us on the game and offered to let us stay over before we drove home.
