Love the shirt. Where and when was this picture taken? He always seemed to be smiling with "that impish grin" as ex-wife Valerie described it. Quite a life doing what you love, doing it well and spreading joy to so many.
Channel 27 for those interested.Sirius XM has a pop up Eddie Van Halen tribute channel on right now, FYI.

Van Halen was pretty much my high school and early college year sound track. Saw them Worcester and Hartford in 1984 with DLR. Saw the show in New Haven with Van "Hagar" that they taped for their "Live Without a Net" VHS tape. Saw them at Monsters of Rock in Foxboro in 1988 with Dokken, the Scorpions and Metallica.
A lesser known project Eddie did was with Brian May of Queen. Mostly blues. I think it was 4 songs. Here's one of them. A lot different that what's probably being linked right now (Eruption, Jump, Runnin w the Devil) and shows another side of him.
May is also an astrophysicist, so...you know... in case the whole Rock God thing doesn't pan out...Brian May is ridiculously underrated, and Eddie is obviously one of the all-time greats. I can't wait to get home and listen to this. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad that even though I was too young to see them in their prime, that I was able to see DLR and Van Halen twice (first in 2007 and then again in 2009 or 2010). They were fantastic both times. RIP Eddie.
Keith quit smoking earlier this year so can now live even longer. One of many disappointing consequences of Covid is the cancellations or postponements of concerts. I have tickets for a Stones show that should have occurred over the Fourth of July weekend in Tampa. Hopefully, this will happen next year but no guarantee as acts like Elton John rescheduled for 2022. I sure miss live shows as well as live sporting events.
I think you have exclude the Stones generally. Pretty sure they made a pack with Satan.

Of course I’m partial to the original VH, but Right Now was one of the best synergies of song and video I’d ever seen. The first time I saw it, just blew me away!
Both Alex (is) and Eddie were accomplished pianists.
I think they also legitimately started to not be able to tolerate each other as well, but yeah. I think Van Halen wanted to play more piano and synth.Wasn't Eddie's desire to play more keyboard stuff part of the reason for the breakup with Roth? DLR kept saying fans wanted Eddie wailing away on guitar not playing electronic keyboard.
Between my brother and I we wore out 1984 and 5150.
Saw them at the Centrum on the 5150 tour. It was my first concert. I don't remember the date because I was 9 years old and the set lists were pretty much the same for that leg. I do remember Hagar on the catwalk, the Jack Daniels' base, and all the solo sessions. Eddie played what would later be called 316, Spanish Fly, and Eruption.
It might be why I like the Hagar years just as much as the 1st Roth era.
Bachman Turner Overdrive opened. My Dad really enjoyed that. One of these: Search for setlists: van halen | setlist.fm

You do know that Eddie played all the organ/keyboards on that tune and so many others. He wrote the music as well as 70% of all VH music.Went to the New Haven Coliseum to see Van Halen during the DLR years. Kind of drifted away from heavier metal by the time of the SH years, but always appreciated Eddie as a guitarist. I was devastated hearing Jump for the first time in late December 1983. I can recall heading up 91 for a new year’s ski trip to Vermont and not getting out of the car for lunch just I could hear the 1st airing of Jump, and hearing the keyboards was so disappointing.
DLR was one of the supreme s in rock and roll history right up there with Glenn Frey.I think they also legitimately started to not be able to tolerate each other as well, but yeah. I think Van Halen wanted to play more piano and synth.
