Age 43 after a two year battle with cancer.

Decent college career, pretty much a bust in the NBA but had one of the best mullets ever.

Real nice college center, played with a little chip for a big man......too bad way too young. RIP Dwayne

Former Gator Schintzius dies at 43

"Even at age 40, he could put both palms on the floor while standing flat-footed and straight-legged. He could take one foot and kick the bottom of a regulation basketball net while keeping the other foot flat on the ground."

This is really too bad. I had no idea he was sick.

I remember a pre-draft assessment for him that was like "Schintzius may be a bit of a headcase, but that head is 7 feet off the ground. He'll be drafted in the first round."

His pro career never took off, but he was able to appear in that move where Whoopi Goldberg coached the Knicks.

"He was declared cancer-free after receiving an initial successful bone-marrow transplant from his younger brother on Jan. 12, 2010"

That's just not fair and certainly sucks!

I remember Schintzius having some 'issues' in college: one famous story claimed that a group of kids came up to him after a game and jokingly asked 'How's the weather up there?'

He replied: 'It's raining!' and proceeded to spit on them. He apparently wasn't a very happy person back then.

Still, 43 is far too young to go. RIP...
