RIP Brian Wilson

Dick Van Dyke is absolutely worthy of the praise he will get just like Wilson is. Brilliant comic, dancer, singer, actor. He's pushing triple digits at the moment.
You could say he's the Thomas Edison of comedy.

Brian Wilson... What a life! The creative brain behind the Beach Boys. Got lost in drugs and depression, not sure which caused which. Appeared to conquer his demons, and wound up living to a ripe old age. May he finally rest in peace.

I have tickets to see Al Jardine in late July. It should be a good and emotional show.

Paul McCartney said that "God Only Knows" is his favorite song ever. Saw (Mike Love - Bruce Johnston) Beach Boys tour in Bridgeport (great venue) last year and at Oakdale in 2023. Saw them with John Stamos some years ago at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis. Years ago (many) saw the group in the rain at Dillon Stadium and at Lake Compounce.
Melody Tent is a great venue. Lodging and bars are a short walk away. I saw the Doobie Brothers there around 2004.

John Stamos is the Picasso of sitcom musicians.

Having worked at a prominent psychiatric hospital in the Northeast (at one time) with aspirations of becoming a Clinical Psychologist (at one time)-- I can say with confidence based on experience. There is a fine line between artistic brilliance and "insanity" (as defined by some people). Brian was such a person.

Thought this deserved a spot on this board. RIP to Brian Wilson, the creative genius behind the Beach Boys. He was a brilliant songwriter and musician who had a huge influence on so many artists. Pet Sounds still stands as an absolute triumph and is one of the greatest albums of all time.

The genius word gets thrown around too much these days but Brian Wilson was a musical genius. There's probably not too many of us but I prefer The Beach Boys to The Beatles.

This. Great post.
Btw, I'm a beach boys over Beatles guy too. And you're 100% right. When you meet one of us it's like meeting someone who was at the 6OT game. It's a fringe club.

You won't have to worry about anyone here eulogizing you when you go.

This guy, maybe.

I love 'em both!

RIP Brian WIlson.

For me, "I can hear music" is still one of the most perfect pop songs ever written.
RIP from me as well. But wow, we have very different tastes in music. Which is fine.

I think he’s fine.

I guess I don’t turn on and jack up the fawning for someone that dies like you.

Hey. Dick Van Dyke is pretty old. You may want to mentally prepare for the genius posts when he goes.

The original Mary Poppins put Van Dyke on an acting tier we didn't see the equal of until Daniel Day Lewis.

I honestly thought he was a chimney sweep for the longest time.

I wanted to get my thoughts in first before the posers arrived.

Smile, the follow up to Pet Sounds, was also a masterpiece. Unfortunately, it was never finished and released as Brian wanted. The songs Brian worked on was basically redid by the rest of the band and released across a few albums through the early 70s. A combination of mental issues, drugs, pressure from the band, his father and the studio eventually did him in and he was never as prolific again. But, from 1962 to 1967, he was competing head to head with Beatles..

Well... my tastes run from Zeppelin > The Mavericks > Emmylou Harris > X > Nathaniel Rateliff > 60's Stax > 70's funk > Miles > Tedeschi Trucks > Geils > ABBA > early rockabilly > country blues ;)

So, Miles, ABBA, and blues.

Went to see Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band last evening! There were 11 members in this ensemble, many former players with the Beach Boys. It was a GREAT show with most of the Beach Boys Hits performed really, really well. Al's son handled all of the falsetto parts perfectly. I highly recommend catching this show if they are in your area!
