RIP Bob Newhart | The Boneyard

RIP Bob Newhart

He was truly an original. I remember reading a thing and some top comedians were saying shows like the office and that awkward humor had their roots planted when Newhart came along. He was just different. He came off as funny, intelligent and just seemed to have a sweetness about him.
He was also great on the The Big Bang Theory.

Newhart’s comedic delivery was one of a kind. I really liked him, even as a little kid.

You liked Newhart when he was a kid? How old are you?

Who else played the Bob Newhart drinking game ?
Every time the word “Bob” was said during his show you had to drink your beer or do a shot. Guaranteed to be fairly drunk or buzzed in those 30 minutes.

There was a poker game at Johnny Carson's house. Rickles, Newhart, Buddy Hacket and a few others were regulars. Asked who made them laugh the most during the games. They said Bob.

We lost Papa Elf.

And the quote from the Newhart show was, "I'm Larry. This is my brother Darryl. This is my other brother Darryl”.

Now as funny as that might be, I'm sure there have been some blended families where they ended up with brothers of the same name, but I digress.

My favorite role of his was Professor Proton on the Big Bang Theory, which turned out to be his first Primetime Emmy award. I was surprised to find that out. I figured he would have won one of those suckers decades ago.

We played the game at UConn. You had to drink a shot whenever another character said “Hi Bob” while watching
“The Bob Newhart Show”.

Rickles and his wife and Newhart and his wife were best of friends and used to go on vacations together. Those must have been hilarious times together.

One of the three or four best comics of my generation. His first album came out when I was a high school freshman, and actually became the first comedy album to reach #1 on the pop chart.

I love this story. Newhart telling Conan when Rickles met Ginny Newhart for the first time.

His albums were the best...Grace L Ferguson Airlines....Gettysburg address.......no Abe...four score is a grabber........just leave it in

Funny funny man. His sit-coms were among the best ever. His break out routine was "the driving instruction" a guy who had seen everything and was calm whatever the situation. He will be missed. RIP.

The Button Down Mind was the name of his award winning album that a couple of posts alluded too.

His deadpan delivery was genius. Watching his routines/clips today, you still dont know if he's being serious or not. What a master!

Funny comedian is dead at 94. I loved both the "Newhart" and "The Bob Newhart" shows. The "Newhart" finale is one of the best finales of all time. He also had some nice skits including the "Stop It" skit.
yup. that was shocking. Probably the 1st time a show broke the 4th Wall. Now, its become so commonplace, its boring or expected.
