That is refreshing to see, honestly. Michigan State, Yale and New Mexico (Pitino!) are other teams that come to mind that eschew the three-point shot as automatically a better shot than a three-pointer.What a concept.
Teaching your players how to play basketball and take the shots they are capable of making
Instead of teaching them an offense and telling them to take analytically smart shots. I didn’t know old school coaching still worked and thought it was obsolete.
I hear ya. As much as I can’t stand Pitino, coach-aside, I like this team and the style they play. This is true, but that doesn't make it less annoying. What's even more annoying is that I will be forced to root for them once we are eliminated from the NCAA tournament, which, tonight, seems pretty likely it will happen.
The content isn’t literally the same, but the point both coaches made are. They wanted fans to understand they’re frustrated with their teams fight/toughness. Does it even matter if Hurley thought his team was a contender during the off season?i think the difference in the callouts is that Pitino didn’t spend an offseason writing checks with his mouth that his team couldn’t cash and he wasn’t comparing them to other teams/people when calling them soft.
Would be wild if little Pitino acts like a minor league system and sends Donovan Dent to him this year to fill the Kadari void. The kid is really good and only a junior.I read that also.
They're 24-4, a few teams in front of them lost. Where would you like them to be ranked?St. John’s and his crew are riding this upsurge in the polls. Who have they beaten that is really very good? Creighton, Marquette and UConn are not good.
That’s how you want to see it. Pitino came into this year with the lone pressure of making the tourney. Hurley was going for a three peat following the most dominant two year run maybe ever. If Pitino was writing checks, Danny was using a black Amex. Better yet, he he season isn’t over. And you can also rank teams based on how well they show - and StJ looks really good right now. Their 4 combined losses by 7 points. Also teams after about 6 in the AP poll are pretty interchangeable, those in the top 6 will be given benefit of the doubt given lot's of quality wins. Also a very new roster this year, took Pitino a bit to get them conditioned up and clicking. I've never seen Kadari this fit. They're 24-4, a few teams in front of them lost. If St John’s underachieves in the tournament I’d love to see if the people who get on Hurley for his “mess” of a season despite winning the last 2 titles in runaway fashion will have that same energy for Slick Rick. That’s how you want to see it. John’s had a good regular season. Let’s see how it plays out.
National media has literally written this team off. I’m not sure there is much of an expectation for any tourney noise out of this team. Which is a nice position to play out of honestly. Kinda why I like the idea of flaming out of the BE tourney, resting and going all in on one last run.If they underachieve in the tournament I’d love to see if the people who get on Hurley for his “mess” of a season despite winning the last 2 titles in runaway fashion will have that same energy for Slick Rick.
