Rick Pitino

Can someone smarter than me explain how the long 2 offense is supposedly working but their offense is just inside the top 75 on Kenpom?

Good for Pitino getting those guys to buy in effort wise and on defense. It’s gonna win them the league and a top seed for the first time in a long time.

He’s a great reminder of how hard it is to win titles. Everyone agrees he’s a fantastic coach(most would say the best in the sport), he’s been doing this for at least 2 decades longer than Hurley, and he still has one less title.

It is also funny how he pulled the Hurley last year by calling his team soft or whatever. I think these guys know when it’s right to call out their guys. Both dudes know what a tough, talented team plays like.
i think the difference in the callouts is that Pitino didn’t spend an offseason writing checks with his mouth that his team couldn’t cash and he wasn’t comparing them to other teams/people when calling them soft.

Also, most of the critique’s I’ve complained about ahead of time is coming to light and it’s beyond frustrating to see this board dump on our players to protect the coaching staff.

I said all last year we should find ways to get young guys time to get their feet wet. The board said shutup, we’re working on our Kenpom score. Now these guys look like freshman.

Said Solo should take more shots than just threes last year because there’s other skills he’ll need. Was told shutup nothing is more important than him shooting 3s. Now he’s a very limited best shooter in the conference on nobody’s draft board this year.

Said hey, don’t know if we’ll go far building a team around Mahaney and Karaban as your best players. Was told shutup, the numbers say this. And now look. Both were incapable of being the best players on the floor, and it’s not their fault the staff made the wrong evaluation to put them in that position!

I’m very much so over this board acting like I don’t know what I’m talking about and then when things come to life find excuses for the coaching staff as to why are players are failing like they aren’t putting them into position to succeed.

"If you just look at the things I was right about and also ignore the parts of things I was right about that are dumb, then it's crazy you guys don't think I know what I'm talking about."

He has the same amount of titles as Hurley, we all saw Louisville win it all. He would probably have a bunch of titles if he stayed at Kentucky but he never stays long at any place. Hell, he probably would've won one at Providence had he stayed.

He has the same amount of titles as Hurley,
Do you measure the amount in pounds or kilos?

Probably not.

You already got 25 Likes for calling him "unbelievable," and implying that you have a personal Mount Rushmore, before claiming that Pitino has guys running through walls.

Your breathless hyperbole opened the door for several other posters to describe his coaching results as insane, as though that's a good thing. Is there something insufficient about describing him as an excellent coach?

Isn't it bad enough that your avatar is a superhero sitting on a toilet?

What a concept.

Teaching your players how to play basketball and take the shots they are capable of making

Instead of teaching them an offense and telling them to take analytically smart shots. I didn’t know old school coaching still worked and thought it was obsolete.
There’s a big difference between what YOU say I said and what I actually said. You completely missed my point. Granted, it was suttle so try reading it again. Ok dw?

Not that we should believe him but Pitino went on record today as saying St. John's is his final coaching stop.
I think his quote was St John's was his final " college" coaching job.

posted this on the board yesterday. I went to his clinic at Providence in the Harold Starks pre-Billy Donovan days. Still the best camp and coaching I've seen
One thing he does that I think is cool is that he uses a portable P.A. system (similar to a bullhorn, but more hightech) in practice so every player can hear him without having to yell. Would love to have been an AC, or even a manager, on one of his teams to learn his mehods.

Yea - but every program is paying. How much did we pay Karaban and McNeeley
I heard Flagg recd 4.8 million.
That’s not the point. Clearly it’s ok. The point is the rebuild anywhere with some huge donor can happen over night. I am not saying what Rick is doing is wrong, I am saying it’s less impressive than it used to be.

People either have short memories or just don’t care and based on what we see daily in the world I think it’s the latter.
University of Hawaii his program had 8 program violations.
Louisville he had sex “very briefly” in an empty Italian restaurant followed by the woman trying to shake him down.
Escorts supposedly hired by his staff for his players to have sex with and he didn’t know anything at all about and years later was “cleared”. The boss was in the dark?
NCAA National Championship title stripped from Louisville and banners taken down.
In his words “I deserved to be fired by Louisville”.
He’s a great coach and motivator and that was good enough for the religious clergy at the top of St. John’s if he could win again, and he has.

Just so everyone on the board knows, this sad Hans guy once asked for my personal phone number on this website. It was creepy as hell but I felt badly for him at the time. It's totally unsurprising he would send this message at 3 in the morning.

If anyone was wondering Tom gave me the avatar and asked if I was cool with it. I thought it was funny from Tom and of course said yes. My handle is in honor of CT and Nets hoop legend Super John Williamson, I don't see myself as an avenging super hero who takes dumps.

of all the coaching clinics I went to, I got (and utilized) much more from Pitino's and Pete Carrill's respective camps than all the others by far.

Nice to hear the back story on Tom gifting you with your avatar. Do you think you do the memory of Jiggy proud with your overblown posts?

Yep, when I sent a private message a decade or so to give you an opportunity to talk through your psycho-spiritual confusions, you showed no interest. I expect you to continue your bent toward exaggeration, gossip, and hot topics; it's a long tail side-effect, and some gravitate to it whether they understand why or not. I'll continue to periodically suggest there's a way out.

As to my overnight post, it fit a timed overnight medication interval. Why that wouldn't surprise you hints toward juicy speculation that runs both on brand and off point. Dish gonna dish.

For what it’s worth I find your posts to be
Among the most astute!
Aaah Super John
It’s 55 years and still can’t believe his WC lost
In the semi finals to Bpt Central lol

No matter how anyone spin it, the guy can flat out coach. The turn around job he did at St Johns is unbelievable. That team will be tough out in the tournament.
Bobby Petrino can coach too.
Doesn’t mean he’s not a sleeze.

Iona was a 13 seed in the 2023 tournament, if that's what you're referring to. Not a 13 seed.

Yeah, we had the analytics of a 1 seed even heading into the NCAA tournament, but we only got a 4 seed because of all the close losses. (Combined with a perception that we had declined over the year and weren't the same team we were in December.)
Valid point. I stand corrected.

Pitino has been successful at every level he coached including the NBA. He will go down as one of the best of all time easily

Thank you, I'm a big fan of your posts too.

This is true, but that doesn't make it less annoying. What's even more annoying is that I will be forced to root for them once we are eliminated from the NCAA tournament, which, tonight, seems pretty likely it will happen.
Not me. I will never root for the "best team NIL can buy", coached by the "come to Louisville, we have escorts and bribes at your disposal" pretty boy.

I hear you, but we need money and success in the NCAA tournament by any member of the conference gives us a share of NCAA credits.

That is refreshing to see, honestly. Michigan State, Yale and New Mexico (Pitino!) are other teams that come to mind that eschew the three-point shot as automatically a better shot than a three-pointer.

During the game, I was sitting near a UConn fan and he kept saying aloud: has a team ever made more mid-range jumpers than this team?

I hear ya. As much as I can’t stand Pitino, coach-aside, I like this team and the style they play.
