lol wow is all i can say. clearly Geno disagrees with you, and so do i, but i guess you know best. i'm sorry you feel that way.
Clearly Geno agrees?

I don't believe so. Like when he said Dolson was the second best center in the country, he is always using hyperbole and you take it as gospel. Hayes had several game where she gave 100% when she didn't shoot well from 3 prior to her senior season. Certainly as good as KML had against Duke.

I'm sure Geno didn't agree with your huge concern that they would play against Duke like they did in the two previous games.

Yep. I've seen Larry Bird and Michael Jordan when they couldn't buy a basket. But they work at other things, and the shot eventually comes around. Sometimes, the shooter just needs to see the ball go in--so they try to get a layup or FTs. Maybe KML needs the same.

Larry Bird spent untold hours alone at the gym just practising his shot.
KML doesn't have that opportunity, or does she?

She does indeed. She can shoot on her own time whenever the gym is available.

Geno has said several times in the last couple of years mostly as a freshman that Tiff pouted, Maya pouted, Bria pouted, KML pouts, Brianna pouts. Geno has said this year and in the past that almost all freshmen pout when the make a bad play and let their pouting take them out of the game mentally.

Absolutely. But saying that Hayes pouted her first 3 years is bull. And insulting. That was my point.

Tiff was in her glory her 1st 3yrs... undefeated the first 2!

I'm gonna reopen this thread after deleting Eric's last post, which was pure personal attack, and deleting a provocative comment from a prior DD post that Eric found offensive.

It seems there may be some good life left in the thread, but you two guys are gonna have to cool it.

Hayes agrees with Auriemma and she has been working hard to correct some bad habits she says she developed, concerning lack of hustle and proficient rebounding.

"I say there's a lot of room for me to still improve because I know myself," Hayes said. "I definitely haven't had some good games in the past, but it is getting better. At the same time I need to make sure I am always progressing. You always can be better, improve on things. I just need to move forward from this game and not backpedal."

wow. amazing comments from Geno and Tiff. and that was from a January 2012 article. bad habits? lack of hustle? apparently the coach agrees, sort of. you are right - i should not have used the word "pout" referring to Tiff's 1st 3 years. apparently he only used that her freshman year. i should have said "bad habits and lack of hustle."

and when he called Stef the 2nd best center in the country, i'm not sure there was a fan on here who didn't believe that at face value. i don't recall how many disagreed, but i'm not sure at the time anyone said he was joking.

and i'm not sure about any "huge concerns". i predicted a close UCONN win - i think by 5 points or so.

OK, about this freshman wall thing. I do think it's real and I would like to understand the causation for it assuming it is real. Maybe some contributing factors:

1. The accumulation of issues piling up from the change to playing in D1 vs. HS. Including, being away from home for an extended time, almost always for the first time, increased demands to practice and play at a much higher level (especially for the UConn kids), etc.. These issues are mostly mental IMO.

2. The longer season. Certainly a longer playing season will have an impact, that is clear if one knows anything about the human body and mind.. But, is it really a longer season, or a different season?. HS kids play a shorter HS season than they do in D1, but they also play an AAU season in HS, but not in college. A few college kids play for team USA, more likely in college than in HS but these kids are only a few and the best, in most cases.. These are mostly physical issues.

If I am right about this view of a different, not longer season we should expect the impact on a kid like KML to be temporary.. A few weeks, a month at most. I think this is what we have usually seen.

And what about Kiah, who seems to be contradicting both the freshman wall theory, as a well as the theory that says post players take longer to develop? Just like Stef last year? Can we shelve that "post players take longer to develop" theory for a while?
