“Both games I came out pretty strong,’’ Mosqueda-Lewis said. “I did well. I scored within the first couple minutes I was out there and then after that I kind of disappeared. I went away. But I’ve been working on that. I’ve been trying to make sure that doesn’t happen again and I’m going to do my best to make sure it doesn’t happen at Duke. And I’m pretty sure it won’t.’’

“I definitely was probably feeling a little overwhelmed,’’ Mosqueda-Lewis said. “But I don’t know what really happened. I kind of just froze once I was out there and once it got towards the end. And I probably did look at Bria (Hartley) and say, `OK, well, Bria’s doing good. So let’s just let Bria keep doing it.’

“I definitely do (feel it’s going to be different). I have a lot more confidence in myself. I know what I need to do at the end of the game. I know that I’ve been paying a lot more attention to everything that Coach has been saying in our huddles during the game. I know that I need to execute every single time I go out there.’’

I just love her personal accountability.
Rare these days, especially for a freshman.

aka Hitting the Freshman Wall. Sounds like she's ready to push through it.

Don't forget, the great Maria Conlon, once missed 31 3s in a row. And none of our guys played an overly cerebral game tonight.

So tonight, just to mix things up a bit, she came out unready. Shes going to be fine, but nights like this are painful to watch.

Why do you say that she "played horrible"? She shot badly -- that is true. (Actually 2-6 from 3 is 33%, which isn't SO bad.) But, as always, she played an excellent game otherwise and really did her power-forward job on the boards. You can't expect freshmen to be great shooters in a #3-vs.-#5 game on national television just because they were great shooters in high school.

What about Elizabeth Williams, who shot 3-15 from a few feet away from the basket, had 3 fouls and only 4 rebounds? Did she "play horrible"?

Very nicely put!!!!!! I like the fact that through missed shots or even through a couple of turnovers that KML continues to try and contribute in other ways. Its' absolutely essential because you know if she or anyone else on the court didn't, they wouldn't be on the court very long. Geno doesn't tolerate it! As others have noted, Williams was off tonight but at least part of her problem was Ms Stokes who played herself a really impressive game, particularly related to the boards!

KML had an off shooting night. i thought it was interesting to realize from other poster's comments that it's possible she hit the freshman wall a bit, since her shooting has been pretty poor the last several games.

Still, and i mean this as no slight against Tiff, isn't this the first year she DOESN'T pout when her 3 point shots don't fall and gives 100% in all aspects when she's on the court? and she's a senior. the fact that KML is out there busting it all over the court with really good stats in every other category tells me that while her shooting is disappointing, everything else is really good.

and even better is her attitude and effort even when her shot is not falling. i think that's really something that few freshmen posess - the ability to do everything else well even when their shot isn't there...

Both Kaleena and Tiff are out there working really hard. If the shots are not falling, they still work hard and succeed at other things. If the shots are falling, they get FOW and POW awards. This is a step forward for Tiffany. For Kaleena, it is very admirable for a frosh and a sign of her maturity and desire to be great. She has totally bought into what Geno is selling.

Often. But players keep playing.
Yep. I've seen Larry Bird and Michael Jordan when they couldn't buy a basket. But they work at other things, and the shot eventually comes around. Sometimes, the shooter just needs to see the ball go in--so they try to get a layup or FTs. Maybe KML needs the same.

I get your point, but I don't see the need to use ones players shortcomings to prop up another player.

KML didn't play a "horrible" game overall. She contributed in a number ways and did an especially good job on the glass and on team D.

But at 2-10 overall shooting, she was ice cold for a good part of the game and it did appear to affect the rest of her game at times. Rebecca chimed in once on this and saying "it's in her head" after she made a non-shooting error of some sort, probably a turnover (she had 4, to 1 assist). I would bet if you asked KML herself she would tell you it was not a very good game for her. But I'm sure she felt good when those two late 3's fell and she definitely hustled her behind around the court on the defensive end the whole time she was in there.

As I said earlier in the thread, "In KML I Trust". She will get things figured out.

I thought that both Williams and KML played like the freshmen that they are last night. But have no doubt that they will both be All Americans one day. Williams is going to be a terror at some point, and probably sooner than later. She had an off night shooting, but she certainly has a nice stroke and great hops.

Williams will eventually learn when it is important for her to go for the block and when it is not. I also felt that if the Duke guards had done a better job at feeding the ball to Williams she would not have picked up the quick fouls. They were guilty of doing what the Baylor guards do, which is being too slow with the entry pass. She seemed frustrated by the lack of activity on offense and therefore tried to do too much in other areas.

KML had some good open looks but I see a pattern with her that I saw with Arriaran from Texas a few years back, which is rarely driving to the basket. Arriaran was limited a little bit by her foot speed therefore I rarely saw her drive to the basket, and I see the same patter of only taking jumpers by KML. I would like to see her take it hard to the basket now and then.

KML will be just fine and once she pushed her mind and body past this issue, she will be so much better off come next month......She was not ready for PT at UCONN.......Stokes is starting to get her sea legs and she will be a huge force for here on........ND will see a different team come Feb 27th
