If they are there just for the "event" they should stay in the parking lot. I do agree with your statement that, "Anything they can do to keep people in their seats I'm for". However, the hundreds that stand around the concourse drinking beer for the "event" should be shown to their seats or to the exits. They should be told this is a football game, not a sports bar. Just like the "fans" coming in near the end of the first quarter. That is obscene. I went to grad school at the Univ. of Tenn and that stadium was packed by game time. Of course they opened up the commuter lots on Friday night so the tailgaters had more than ample time to stage their pre-game "events".
Anyone who is there is pouring money into the athletic program - which, mind you, we need to become "big time."
While, yes, I'd rather 30,000 rabid fans versus 10k that are there simply for the event, I'd much rather 30,000 there (10k who are just there for the event) than only 20,000 there.
