I can't say I disagree with anything here, but going back to Memorial Stadium Days we rarely had a packed house in a 16,000 seat stadium, the Rent opens and suddenly we have over 30,000 season tickets? Where did all those "fans" come from? IMO they didn't sign up because they were "fans" of the team but there for the "event" that college football is, and when they saw that it isn't the glamour of the more historic programs that they see on TV they faded away, and continue to this day as evidence by the declining numbers of the casuals at the games (although only a potential reason of many for the declining numbers).

If they were going 10-2 or even 9-3 every year the place would be packed. The "johnny come lately's" will of course include a number of casual fans, but also serious fans as well. Few are going to come to a game because there is a ribbon board. If they have them, great. However, it seems to be such a minimal part of the game at best, and a tacky distraction at worst.

So you're a big fan of DJ Joey Franchise? :(

yeah, that's exactly what I said, thanks for participating. The "welcome to the jungle" crap was used well before DJ Joey to get the meat-heads on their feet and noisy, you can't pin that on him. He's a rather recent addition to the games in the history of the Rent, and no I don't like him, I think the UCMB should be miked and the only music we hear at games but I can focus on the game and know when to cheer and make noise without being queued to do so.

yeah, but those same people that are distracted with the open concourse may find that it draws their attention enough to stay in their seats. not to mention the appearance to potential recruits that we are up to date even if our performance on the field is not.

If they are there just for the "event" they should stay in the parking lot. I do agree with your statement that, "Anything they can do to keep people in their seats I'm for". However, the hundreds that stand around the concourse drinking beer for the "event" should be shown to their seats or to the exits. They should be told this is a football game, not a sports bar. Just like the "fans" coming in near the end of the first quarter. That is obscene. I went to grad school at the Univ. of Tenn and that stadium was packed by game time. Of course they opened up the commuter lots on Friday night so the tailgaters had more than ample time to stage their pre-game "events".

Anyone who is there is pouring money into the athletic program - which, mind you, we need to become "big time."

While, yes, I'd rather 30,000 rabid fans versus 10k that are there simply for the event, I'd much rather 30,000 there (10k who are just there for the event) than only 20,000 there.

Who made you Fan Police? Who annointed you King of The Fans? Maybe you should just worry about what you're doing and let people spend thier afternoon at The Rent in whatever manner they see fit.

You must mean through direct donations, tickets, UConn merchandise, because if I'm not mistaken the program doesn't make a dime from the concessions, there are others here that can confirm that to be true or false, but given that we "rent" the Rent for games I doubt we take the profits from the concessions.

I was annointed King of the Fans by the Ayatollah of UConn Footballa. I say if you buy a ticket to come and see a football game, then you should come in and watch the football game and cheer and boo to your hearts content. If you are there primarily to "party" you aren't there for the football game. I tailgate before the games and have been known to put away a few glasses of drink and a lot of food in the blue lot. That said, I am in my seat for the kick-off. If you are there to simply drink and bs around, you should throw a party at home. It's cheaper and you won't annoy others who want to watch and enjoy the game they paid to see. The King of Fans has spoken!

People who complain about the Ribbon Boards are usually the same s who complained about getting the 10th anniversary collector coin in the mail.

You realize turning fans against each other is a surefire way to destroy the program. But go right ahead and take your act to the parking lot and the concourses. If you own a business and your employees are desperate for their next paycheck that attitude might work. In this case it could have unintended consequences. I'm assuming/hoping you're only half serious. We'd all like a rabid fanbase but it's not everyones #1 priority. A lot of fans in all sports are there for the event or because they are bandwagon jumpers to a winning team. We should be trying to reach both markets. It's just good business sense.

Ribbon boards are crapola. Real fans are there to watch and appreciate the games, not have idiotic ribbon boards flashing at them. I want to watch ribbon boards, stay home and play video games instead.

You being a "true fan" and all, the ribbon boards are not for you. They are for that casual fan that is making the choice between staying home and playing video games or coming out to the field and watching the game in person. It adds to the in stadium experience, whether you recognize it or not.

Stop it with the football attendance resume' already. You are the truest of true blue UConn fans.

Question: if "Fans" choose the exit, are you going to complain about that?

during the Towson game I stopped standing for 3rd downs because, you know, what's the use (I wasn't the only one).....and these d-bags in front were going GET UP!!GET UP!! GET UP!! with that "get up" arm gesture. It was satisfying just sitting there watching these SuperFans trying to direct the crowd. These are the same dip$hits that give people who leave early a hard time.

I guess I am a superfan dipsh#t, although I hate, hate it when people come in late,(rude) or leave early. I know it's your ticket to do what you want with it ( pathetic excuse).

Actually your rant about the fan's behavior felt like an arm extension/tiny mustache to me. But of course that's just my opinion.

you're a weird wonderful strange cat Art, but that's what makes this blue marble go 'round, right? Thank god you don't go to basketball games - at least there I don't have SuperFans trying to tell the crowd to act.

I go to basketball games and they do not allow people to stand around holding a beer on the concourse. They can do it inside by the refreshment stands but not in the arena area.
