The Huskies have played 17 games against teams in the Big Dance and 6 games vs teams that have made it to the WNIT. 9 games have been against teams that are 3 seeds or better. Yet, after losing the best woman in college basketball, with no All-Americans on the team, and with 5 of their top 8 players either sophomores or freshmen, the Huskies managed a 29-4 record and a Big East tournament title. Very nice.

Holy Cross - Patriot League tourney runner up
Pacific - WNIT

Fairleigh Dickenson
Buffalo
Dayton - 11 seed
Towson
Texas A&M - 3 seed, Big 12 tourney runner up

WVU - 8 seed
Notre Dame - 1 seed

With 9 of their last 11 games coming against NCAA teams (none lower than a 7 seed)..not bad at all. They will be ready!

Great work Nan...gives one a new perspective and appreciation for what this team has already achieved. With yet more to come...the book isn't closed on just how good this team was.

That is a very impressive schedule, with few breaks in it.

Congrats to Dayton and Pacific. They scheduled UConn, knowing they had little chance of winning, so they could see what greatness and effort looked like up close and improve for their conference play. Both made the postseason!

And while playing this schedule (somewhere in the SOS #3 to #7 region depending on the rater) the Huskies are still on course to set the the top all-time defensive scoring mark, at least as long as Stanford can be counted on to put up big time points against Hampton in the first round to boost UConn's 1.1 ppg margin. UConn is at 45.7 and the 2010 Huskies have the record at 46.2. Two years ago the Huskies gave up an average 43.0 points in the tourney, and for a full 6 games UConn would need to average 45.5 or less to rebreak their record.

A excellent testament to entire coaching staff and most of all the team.

#1 in:
Scoring defense (45.7 ppg)
FG% defense (29.9%)
Scoring margin (30.6 ppg - against the 3-7 SOS)

#2 in:
Assists per game (19.0)
FG% offense (47.6%)

#4 in Assist-to-Turnover ratio (1.28)

#5 in 3 point % Defense (24.8)

#7 in Scoring Offense (76.2)

#8 in Rebound Margin (10.0)

Individually, the only Huskies near the top of any category are Kaleena, #18 in three point FG% (39.4%) and #28 in threes per game (2.6), and Kelly, #22 in Assist-to-Turnover ratio (1.94)

So since the Husky guys' weakness against the 3pt shot has been noted on the MCBB board, maybe Jim could borrow Kelly, Tiff, Bria, KML, CD2 and all to get past Thursday's tough matchup. 24.8% is really miserly.

Thanks Nan for putting up the schedule post which has the additional tournament inf and this post ! I am a believer that Defense and Rebounding win Championships<of course you have to score more pts lol than the other time> I have followed these stats, and it really is impressive what we have achieved in what is a "rebuilding year" with a flawed team! I say that respectfully because we do not have the balance we have had in past years and that we will have starting next season. I felt we didn't have that last season either with CD injured,Walker leaving, and Maya having to really carry the load. In both years I find it remarkable what we have achieved! I do get Geno's toungue in cheek remarks" I do at this point anticipate we will get to the Final Four and "see what happens;) Props to the team,Geno and the Coaches, the fans, and the posters!
Bruinball it is 10-12;)

That's all well and good but what I want to know is when are we going to stop feasting on all these cupcakes.

Unless a team has the #1 SOS in the country, it can not expect to make the final four. That's why UConn never makes it and Utenn does.

Cupcakes should not be sneered at. The following link details the many nutritional values of a cupcake-rich diet. I am very impressed by this important food group's rich mineral resources, good folate number, and nice theobromine total.

If anything, I'm worried that with the Huskies chewing on a diet of tough rawhide all year that they didn't get the twinkie nutrients they need for the tourney.

when they stop topping them off with yummy buttercream frosting! :p

And that's one of the things I love about this team...it's a TEAM, its sum better than its parts!
