Nice breakdown.
Nice breakdown.

It really kind of put into perspective how much better the history and tradition is of the NBE in hoops. Especially with us there and the potential rivalries if we return to glory.

If Butler's heave against Duke went down and Seton Hall didn't have that BS foul called against them more than half of the NBE would have a National Championship. In the AAC only Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple, and Houston (who was hibernating for 30 years) have any substantial basketball history.

Ironically the Big East's 2nd best program the last couple years, Xavier, is one of the only school's in the league to have never made the Final 4. That's what sucks the most about their gag jobs in 2016 and 2018. They deserved one.

I think you are missing some Gtown final fours?

Link?
Geez, it took me all of 5 seconds to type his name into the search and pull it up...and I'm > 60. Yeah I get "Aaron Torres" has more letters than "link" ...but come on, how lazy are you?

Funny I made a comment in the office today to a younger guy about uconn back to the big east. He's a legit sports fan and honestly had no idea what conference we were in, genuinely had no idea what the aac was
What I wouldn't give to not even know that the AAC exists.

.-.
The highest finishes of The New New Big East

National Championships
UConn- 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014 (4)
Villanova- 1985, 2016, 2018 (3)
Georgetown- 1984 (1)
Marquette- 1977 (1)

National Runner Ups
Butler- 2010, 2011 (2)
Seton Hall- 1989 (1)
St. John's- 1952 (1)

Final Four
Providence- 1973, 1987 (2)
DePaul- 1979 (1)

Elite 8
Xavier- 2004, 2008, 2017 (3)
Creighton- 1941 (1)

UConn and Villanova are 2 of the top 10 programs in the last 20 years and they will now be in the same conference. If Hurley can get us back (he really doesn't have an excuse now) and Wright stays put, that could be a marquee basketball game of the year in the sport. Imagine if they are both ranked and playing for the BET at MSG on Fox on a Saturday night? We already know Hurley and Cooley have history so that will also be a big rivalry.

Seton Hall and Providence seem to be fighting for NCAA spots under Willard and Cooley regularly. DePaul seems pretty comfortable at the bottom with Dave L.

My 2 big questions will be can Xavier, Butler, and Marquette continue to make the right hires as they usually lose their well established coaches to other leagues. And can Georgetown and St. John's show any signs of life under Ewing and Anderson.
So nine of the ten Old Big East Championships are in the New Big East. Not too bad. To venture slightly OT, 11 of the 11 Old Big East Women's Basketball Championships are in the New Big East.

How can you go up to Providence when you’re already in Providence?
we are looking forward to the piss being beat out of us since we are little sisters of the poor, can't wait.

In all seriousness this is not the Friars you remember. They should be great games with great atmosphere at both games each year.

The schools you used to be the snot out of have all improved their programs tremendously in the last 6 years. Even Depaul is better. This league has no easy games, especially with the round robin.

UConn gets to beat the snot out of Nova this year for the 3rd year in a row! Enjoy your rekindled rivalry!

I was at the URI/ Providence game this past year. GREAT atmosphere and the Friars are very different than when UConn was in the Big East. Will be a great renewed rivalry.

Screw UConn, we owe you some snot beating, I'm tired of y'all.

Part of me wants to believe Fox will overpay for rights to the state school in ESPNs backyard they have taken for granted. I work for Marriott on Hilton Head Island, Marriott and Hilton aggressively compete for market share. Hilton Head is Marriott’s flagship resort location with 8 resorts. We overbid on every resort for sale so that Hilton can’t gain a presence here.

I'm not 100% sure what to think about this move to the Big East, indifferent would be the wrong word, but I guess not knowing how to feel exactly is why I have held off commenting for so long. I am just so...mixed.

It will be nice to see some old rivals and I am also happy to see Butler. I guess for me, the biggest thing is even the teams I don't care about, Depaul and Creighton still excite me way more than Tulane, ECU, SMU, USF and Tulsa. Even Marquette strikes me as more exciting than the majority of the AAC outside of Cincy and Temple. If I really think about the teams I will miss Cincy is the only one and maybe Temple a little. When I start to look at it that way I guess there are some positive feelings and I would not be shocked if a lot of fans feel the same. Plus in the long run I think (hope) it will put Uconn in a better spot money wise. But still, at this point there is something deep down telling me not to get excited (yet) and I don't know why but I think that is why I am still on the fence about this whole move (and I don't even really watch fball that much).

I'm a UConn basketball fan (obviously), having grown up in CT but didn't attend UConn . This return to the Big East will definately help Hurley' staff in recruiting. And more importantly this will translate to improvement in the team, and better attendance. The travel costs will be less, and players will appreciate the quicker travel times. I was depressed after knowing UConn played its last MSG Big East Tourney game... I am in the NYC area and the MSG Big East Tourney is much easier to attend (than AAC). From my stand point of view, what's not to love here ?

Anyone would leave the G-5 to join the P-5 in a second.
P5 is a pipe dream for them too. Got to believe Cincy and Memphis would strongly consider moving to a hoops centric conference like their version of the BE, the old Metro Conference (if it existed).

Or does it just seem that way because the power teams of the Big East aren't beating the crap out of them?

Nova has beat the crap out of all of us, as a matter of fact the last two times we beat them they won NC's. Just check the KenPom changes to your old red headed step children since the split. This conference has done wonders for these schools. For PC landing a top 50 or even top 100 was a pipe dream in the old Big East now it is expected that all recruits will be in that range. Look at our one recruit for 19. Greg Gantt, He is so well respected he made 1st team all N. Carolina and only played 9 games because of a broken thumb. This conference is tough, you will see.

82, the year before last, PC beat Nova, then they lost to them in OT in the Big East Championship then Nova rolled to the NC, obliterating everyone. I know you don't want to accept this but this is a very competitive league that UConn just joined, you eventually are going to have to pitch your old biases.
