Just as they appear to be doing with the basketball team, they have to start jacking up the schedule with powerhouse OOC schools. That's going to be the only way to stay in the press, have a decent power rating, and draw recruits and fans.

If we win, the stadium will be full. People like to watch a winning team. It's really that simple. Our OOC schedule will have to be better. These are really the only answers.

As to our future? If any major conference East of the PAC-12 (and even the PAC-12 because the Big 12 pieces will need teams) expands we're on the short list. There just aren't that many serious athletic programs left. If not we probably weren't going to get picked up anyway. If the B1G wants to add us, I'm pretty sure the Rent could get to 50k without too much trouble. It was designed to be expanded.

Some of you guys seriously need to join a 12 step group or something.

They can't even get the field in decent shape. Field looked like my backyard. Go Turf already

From another poster on another thread: "Heard on the radio "pre-game" show that the grass on the playing field and team portions of the sidelines will be removed and replaced with new sod this week. The grass will have a chance to get established before a men's soccer doubleheader in July, then reworked for the football season. When we were on the field after the game I was surprised by how much sand was there--the 40 yard line was more beach-y than turf-y."

Do you think the state could afford to keep the Rent open with the schedule were gonna have once this year is over? The ACC for all intents and purposes just put the last nail in our coffin. I love Uconn football as much as the biggest die hard. But im starting to lose hope for us. Maybe its time we scrap football and focus on basketball. There is no way the State can afford to keep the Rent open for the piss poor crowds that will come with a glorified Division 1AA conference schedule coming. Sorry for the doom and gloom but im heart broken.

Rather than throwing up our hands and decrying poor attendance, how about coming up with some ideas on how to pack the stadium ---other than lowering ticket prices. Assume the AAC for the next 5 years and a Bowl game this year. Care to participate?

The strategy appears to be to beef up the OOC schedule substantially. But Warde has his work cut out for him in finding other ways to get the means that we need.

I think we will be OK. But other programs have suffered greater falls than us. Instead of being heartbroken, buy more tickets.

Even though I hate what the current coaches are doing, I buy them.

Winning cures all ills. Give us flashy uniforms and a high octane offense a la Oregon / Boise and the Rent will be at on near capacity every game. Give us two yards and a cloud of dust running plays, four yard out patterns and a swiss cheese O line and we can bring Wisconsin in and only draw 30k.

Just win the games!!!!!!!!!!!

I never had season tickets. Didn't have the money for them. Am disabled. But have gone to UConn-Sacred Heart hockey games. Would you go to such hockey games?

I was at most of the games last year, thanks to members of this message board. (You know who you are.) I went to the first game at the Rent in 2003. And some games in between.

I have a season ticket for the upcoming season. Yeah, I am going to try to go to every game. Also want a hockey season ticket.

The ACC Doesnt affect us? Since when? Because HFD said were going to the Big10? Our best shot of going to a different conference is the ACC. the Big14 or whatever the new name is has a rule I believe that Stadium Capacity has to be 50K. Northwestern was "granfathered" In. This hope of the big whatever is a long shot. One im hoping and praying for but dont think its reality.

1. We could still go to the ACC.
2. Or elsewhere.
3. Any school that wants to leave the ACC can test the broadcast rights transfer.
4. Or they can just leave and let the ACC sue them and play defense.
5. In any case it has virtually no affect on UConn.

We are in a situation with limited options. It sucks that we have been bypassed and other schools have been handed a golden lifeline (see Rutgers, L'ville, Cuse, Pitt). But so far we are not destitute, and have the ability to make this work. It won't be easy but it will be in our hands. The school needs to do all it can to grow FB into a solid, competitive, nationally respected product. Since our conference will be poorly viewed, it will be necessary for us to prove our worth against OOC teams. It may be similar to Boise and will be hard to pull off since as we see with Boise they kill them about their conference games even if they win their OOC games. I don't see where dropping FB makes sense until it is proven that changes that we can make won't work. It may be required that we change the coaching staff in order to win here and put an attractive, competitived product on the field. We certainly haven't been very good with this staff. This year should tell us whether this staff can get it done or not. I don't get the sense there is any more patience in the admin to wait additional years for the change to occur. Let's try to support the team even if we don't like the admin or the coach. Maybe the conference schedule won't be that attractive in coming years but this year we have LV, Rutgers and USF at home and Mich and Maryland at home so there's no point in bitching about the schedule we're playing this year. Support the team now and try to be part of getting us out of this ditch we're in! If everything fails this year with FB and we simply can't win with this team and this staff, AND the admin doesn't make the necessary changes to create a winning product, then jump off the bandwagon if you can't see spending your money on this. I am a UCONN lifer and graduate. Although I care greatly about us winning, I still will buy season tickets even if the product doesn't improve. For Buffett10 - If you can't see your way to supporting FB but choose to support other UCONN teams, that helps too. Just doesn't help with getting us where we want to go as a program and conference-wise. But chucking the whole thing/it's premature. Lets try to make this work, and lets see if we can improve greatly in the admittedly limited scenario we find ourselves. Giving up does not help us succeed

How is Maryland considered to be a quality opponent? Other than the Edsal factor giving it some interest. Maryland is among the worst teams in any major conference.

And yet, somehow they got a B1G invite. But yes, the Edsall factor makes this game much more interesting than it otherwise would have been. I am hopeful that the additional seats that will be set up for the Michigan game will also be needed for this game.

I'm late to the party here, but I think the schedule gives us a BETTER chance at getting good crowds. The Huskies should be able to consistently win 9 games a year against the current schedule, and go to Bowl games almost every year. That plus the tailgating environment still makes the Rent a very attractive Saturday in the fall.

Fans go to see UConn win. Not to see them lose to a big name opponent. Will the games against Tulane sell out? Not likely; however, I also don't see only 10K showing up EVER.

Only for those over the age of 21. They need to designate a spot in the Blue Lot to throw a football around. Cars are packed in like sardines.
