I would love to have at least one away game within driving distance each season. We've got nothing after this season.
Was kind of thinking the same thing. That was all we heard on the old yard. Speaking as a fan of basketball boards, and not as a basketball fan, I would have to nix UMass period. Let them say now that Ollie is a cheat and he's ducking us. I have heard enough from UMess fans to last a lifetime! We cant play UMASS . . . .
We are still ducking them. . . . . . . .
Cutting down on coast to coast home and home games like Stanford and Washington might not be a bad idea either.
Cloth Frog? Please explainCons: Cloth Frog comes back. I think Yonick will agree with me on that note.
Why not? We just have to drop a current weak opponent. As the conference becomes weaker next year with Louisville leaving our out of conference schedule becomes even more important. We shouldn't have room for teams like Maine and Umass would be an upgrade.
Hey maybe some of these dudes will cough up the dough and it can happen. I'm not holding my breath. Some people don't have to consider finances of other entities. Nice luxury,For starters playing Maine or any cupcake at home brings over a 100k in revenue to the school, and playing at UMass brings $0. Can we please stop this UMass talk now please? There are much better teams to schedule home and homes with.

I think one of them is Jeff Hathaway which explains a lot.Exactly, if these posters want to donate a couple hundred thousand to the athletic department to make up for these road games at URI, UMass and PC I'm all for it! Thank God none of these guys are running our athletic department
Attendance at the Detroit game was about 8k. Attendance at a UMass game would no doubt be over 12k. With the price of tickets an awful lot of money is being left on the table playing Detroit vs UMass. Someone at UConn is got to start thinking outside of the box in order to improve the level of competition (RPI) going forward in the AAC. Finding a way to eliminate "cupcakes" like Detroit needs to be found. I wound think TV/ radio revenues would be better if more no local interest cupcakes were reduced from the schedule.Hey maybe some of these dudes will cough up the dough and it can happen. We didn't schedule Detroit. That was part of the 2k Sports tournament. Not sure why I had to be a dick and point that out, I get what you're saying. With Louisville leaving the conference next year, UConn seriously needs to improve its RPI competition. Adding a home and home for UMass by dropping Maine and Detroit type teams would be worthwhile I think. Some loss of revenue by dropping a home game would be worthwhile in long run. Maybe UMass would be willing to sweeten the pot by agreeing to play the Rent w/o a return football home game. Cutting down on coast to coast home and home games like Stanford and Washington might not be a bad idea either.
I remember probably 10-11 years ago CCSU had a string of a few good years, made a couple NCAAs, I think even had like a 19 game winning streak at point. Well we played them and people were all like "oooowwww I bet Central gives them a run for their money!" And we beat them by 20-25 pts. I do wish one of the other 6 D1 instate schools could rise to a VCU or Butler type level. That would be interesting. Wouldn't happen though.Play them in football? No.
Play them in basketball? Yes. Still would make a good local rivalry. Other than the in-state cupcakes, the pickings is slim now.
Better league than the AAC? Who?
We don't owe New England basketball anything. If an old Yankee Conference team is relevant again then it needs to happen for New England. No reason not to with the time distance between the time the Squid was there and now!
You can say what you want about the A-10. But once Louisville is gone the A-10 should clearly be better than the AAC. and as of now the A-10 enjoys a better conference RPI than the SEC and AAC... That league is looking to get six bids right now. With that said, their brand recognition is weak, probably a lot weaker than the AAC. I don't say none of this with a smile as I do root for Connecticut but a series with UMass would not be a bad idea in my eyes.
