Why would we put reibe at the 4 when we have wings that threaten the perimeter better than reibe on our bench?Disagree - I think we'll go big at times because given their different skillsets and positional advantages Reed and Reibe could give teams fits with Demery, Ball, Karaban, Mullins, Stewart, Furphy providing additional inside/outside versatility. Can you imagine Reed getting one on one post ups due to the opposition's 4 having to guard Reibe at the arc (or pay the price if they don't)? And with Reibe's ability to put the ball on the floor and pass well, teams are gonna have fits trying to guard us again. This could be a American/Euro hybrid offense... Karaban will be able to settle into better face up 3's and a bit few less minutes a night keeping his legs fresher for late game/late season... Endless possibilities and flexibility.
Injuries, foul trouble, OT games, 3 games in 3 nights/BE tournament. Not saying it's going to be a staple. Why would we put reibe at the 4 when we have wings that threaten the perimeter better than reibe on our bench?
We also just don’t have the big depth and to risk fouls on reibe.
Agreed. He can play as a big stretch 4 at times. His offensive game looks dynamic and I love his ability to shoot from the outside.Stylistically it can actually work this season as opposed to Sanogo/Clingan, Clingan/Johnson, etc. Not saying there'll be a ton of double big, but rather used here and there. Reibe's skillset is the difference this time around.
But the point is that we're going to have at least 1 and likely 2 very good wing players being squeezed out of minutes and maybe the rotation. It's a worse lineup on the court and also means less minutes for our best players. While also creating a massive disadvantage at the 5 spotStylistically it can actually work this season as opposed to Sanogo/Clingan, Clingan/Johnson, etc. Not saying there'll be a ton of double big, but rather used here and there. Would rather see Mullins than Reibe if we want to stretch the defense. Reibe needs to be our upgrade to the Samson prototype - long, athletic, can dunk but can also shoot the 3zInjuries, foul trouble, OT games, 3 games in 3 nights/BE tournament. Not saying it's going to be a staple.
Why does the double bigs thing pop up every year?
I agree, it IS the achilles heel- foul trouble 3rd option is eitherGive me a third playable true center and I'm not against a situational double big. As the team is constructed now, we'll be crossing our fingers to get to halftime with our 2 centers having 2 fouls or less. I'd set 10 games this year as the over/under where both Reed and Reibe have 2 first half fouls, and 6 minutes as the over/under for the time left in the first half in those games where Hurley is going to have to risk 3 fouls or improvise. I'm hoping Hurley is overseas to locate another big in addition to watching our guys in FIBA. On paper, I see 2 centers jn foul trouble as our biggest obstacle to winning 6 straight ncaa tournament games.

Make it happen
Singare logged 87 minutes over two seasons - few of them were urgently needed, but, at least one game last season…. . Youssouf Singare College Stats | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.comHow much time has a 3rd center played over the last 3 years? Total? Is it plus or minus 60 minutes?
Thanks for doing the legwork. I'm in the camp that's not going to obsess over the lack of a 3rd big man in July. True. SJ actually had a couple games with 20 or less minutes while Donovan was out, but it wasn’t our 3rd string C picking up the slack. Also, in the biggest spotlight with Johnson fouled out (in like 5 minutes of playing time) and Clingan saddled with 4 fouls, Hurley went to Karaban at CWhen Clingan was out for multiple games Samson Johnson wasn't playing 40 minutes.
So glad we got to see where these guys are coming into UConn. Both look immediately like every game rotation pieces, and foundational players we can build around as sophomores.
Events like these also expose weaknesses and will make it easy to focus on those before their freshman years.
Furphy has got to fix the cardio issue, between practice and games, it's a long and tiring season, even if the college schedule isn't this crazy.
Reibe must be ready to rebound for us, he won't be playing with another big anymore, and we don't know how good our team rebounding will be. Like most bigs, he's gotta work on defending without fouling, but most freshmen will struggle with that.
Can't wait to watch these guys, they're perfect fits for our system.
He wasn't, yet Singare still only played 11 minutes in that stretch. Not per game, total. The 3rd center is going to be a total non-factor, because in all the scenarios you laid out those minutes are still largely going to Karaban and Koroma before a 3rd centerWhen Clingan was out for multiple games Samson Johnson wasn't playing 40 minutes.

Yeah I saw that and had to chuckle. I don't think cardio will be an issue for FurphyFurphy has got to fix the cardio issue, between practice and games, it's a long and tiring season, even if the college schedule isn't this crazy.
Dude, he played almost every minute of every game for like 7 days in a row!!!

My post was in response to a post suggesting we never have a need for a third center because our third string center got no minutes in the past 3 years. I correctly pointed out that somebody not named Clingan had to cover the 5 when we started Johnson in his absence. You may be ok with Karaban/Koroma, and that could be sufficient many times. I see that as a way to risk Karaban foul trouble, and, give another team a matchup advantage with Koroma. The staff indicated they were looking for another center, and I believe that was after or concurrent with bringing Koroma on board. We know they brought at least 1 2025-2026 center in for a visit after Koroma. Sorry for a contrary opinion but I still think the team should pursue another true rebounding power big. I know the pickings are slim and are unlikely at this point, but it doesn't change that this could be our achilles heal in my opinion. He wasn't, yet Singare still only played 11 minutes in that stretch. How many weeks ago was that they brought in another center to look at? I am 99.9% sure this team is set for the upcoming season. I'm not sure why you would be concerned about 5 minutes AK/Koromoa would play the 5. We can also double and rotate. We did this in 2023-24 and was fine wit Clingan out.My post was in response to a post suggesting we never have a need for a third center because our third string center got no minutes in the past 3 years.
