Germany up 52-33 at the half. Furphy’s shot horribly and Reibe’s been a non-factor after the early fouls. It’s been Anderson and Steinbach balling out for Deutschland.

First damn game of the tourney I’ve actually watched so maybe it’s my fault. Hoping to see our two guys play better in the second half.
Same! First game I've watched and it hasn't been a particularly fun one as a UConn fan lol

Wow, that is that one of the ugliest examples of basketball I have watched in awhile.

Amazing what a rolled ankle can do for an offense lol

Aus with serious momentum now. Crowd getting into it....this is why we tuned in!

Down to a 9-point game with Siulepa on the bench. And the Aussies have the ball

Shot clock winding down, our boy cans a DEEP three. Six point ballgame folks.

Missed wide open layup that would have cut it to 4 was probably the game

oof. Australia guy misses a wide open fast break layup, next possession Furphy misses a layup. 4 crucial points left on the table in a 7 point game

Reibe just hit what I think is the dagger to go up 9 with just over 2 minutes left

It’s been said before but Furphy is the only player on AUS that has any interest in playing actual team offense. Siulepa, we know. Fennell: jacking up every shot he can (tbf he made a few during their run). Brogan drives and throws up shots like he’s in a bricklaying competition. Haven’t noticed Daniels at all because of his foul trouble.

Furphy will do great things with an actual system and actual competent team players around him.

Furphy missed 2 open threes when Aus was down 7 that would have cut it to 4. But just rimmed out. Bummer.

Reibe came back in and scored 2 buckets and heavily contested a 1v1 Furphy drive.

Aus tried to overcome Suilepa, but could not. Fennel and Furphy ran out of gas and missed a bunch of shots down the stretch. Reibe doing some mop up work for the box score, but was largely absent due to fouls. Great tourney Furphy excited for whats to come.

80-67 final. Furphy had a stronger second half but ran out of steam. Reibe really didn’t but he played well down the stretch and in mop-up

One Furphy 3 was from logo range but the closer he gets to the bucket in traffic, the less likely the ball will go in. When he attacks into traffic he gets to a point where he is less shooting and more improvising to get his shot off. All in all I am very pleased with both players and it is clear they will both be positive contributors.

Nadav was the final piece of the puzzle in 89/90. Chris Smith, Scott Burrell and Tate George all went on to the NBA. John Gwynn was offfense off the bench and Lyman DePriest was defense off the bench. They were very good college role players. The center position was very average with Sellers and Cyrulik. Nadav was the blueprint for Karaban but was a much better passer and he averaged almost 4 steals a game, incredible in the passing lanes.

BTW Scheffer was not on the 89/90 team. Sceffer and another freshman named Ray Allen showed up in 93/94
I take issue with calling Cyrulik average because of the Georgetown game in the 1990 BE Tournament, the game in which Toraino Walker replaced the injured Sellers, and along with Dan Cyrulik held Mutombo and Mourning to a standoff. What a game. We were, along with all UConn fans, delirious after that game. I'm sure Dan and Toraino were too!
Dan and Toraino were freshmen and may not have even been average but that night they made it possible for UConn to shut down Syracuse with their tandem of Owens and Coleman the next night and win our first BE Tournament Championship.

His percentage at the rim before today (including vs the size Team USA has) was phenomenal. I think the scout is out on Australia and teams are keying in on Furphy. Let Siulepa and the guards do what they want... only one guy on tjat team can beat you.
