Furphy with only 4 points at half vs Canada in consolation game. Gotta wonder if playing 7 games in 8 days is making him fatigued. I’d say so
I have not watched any of the games, only the highlights, and I can answer this. The answer is yes, playing that much is making him fatigued.

Rough line for Furphy. 8 points on 3-18 shooting (0-7 three) in a 3 point loss

I watched most of the first four or five games. The Australian coach like to do mass substitutions taking the entire starting 5 out and replacing them with a new starting 5. Except…

The one player he would always leave in was Furphy. He played great in all these early games. But in the fourth-quarter he was wearing down and not as effective.

So yeah, the only answer is fatigue. Not worried about his abilities when he gets to UConn.

That's an insane schedule. FIBA can't spread the games out some more? Kind of stupid to do that to teams. How do they schedule in the Olympics? I don't think they schedule like that.

7 games in 9 days not 8 (2 days off), but yeah, still pretty nuts to be playing 35 min a day.

They do a similar 6 games in 8 days for the group stage, but then the knockout rounds have 2 days before they start and then a day off inbetween each game.

Probably at the request of all these nations. A lot of these teams operate on a shoe-string. I know firsthand that the US soccer teams do at the U (20 and lower) levels.

My understanding is that the host tournament and FIBA cover travel and accommodations. Is that not true?

Reibe starting to get loose in the 2nd, all of his 7 points in the quarter

Reibe’s so advanced offensively. Germany played through him for a stretch and he scored 3 straight baskets, one from deep, against this usa team. Also had two stops at the rim, but racked up 3 quick fouls in 5 defensive plays.

.-.
Brutal 3rd for Reibe but that was the case for the whole team and they became unglued, US kicked things into another gear that Germany couldn't keep up with.

Man that is one ugly looking FT. He's going to need to clean that up... A lot cleaner from deep. Not very typical

So glad we got to see where these guys are coming into UConn. Both look immediately like every game rotation pieces, and foundational players we can build around as sophomores.

Events like these also expose weaknesses and will make it easy to focus on those before their freshman years.

Furphy has got to fix the cardio issue, between practice and games, it's a long and tiring season, even if the college schedule isn't this crazy.

Reibe must be ready to rebound for us, he won't be playing with another big anymore, and we don't know how good our team rebounding will be. Like most bigs, he's gotta work on defending without fouling, but most freshmen will struggle with that.

Can't wait to watch these guys, they're perfect fits for our system.

I know US Soccer covers costs for FIFA but again, they have a shoestring budget. FIFA doesn't cover travel for all the teams.

UConn has these guys named Reed and Karaban that rebound well and a 6'5" PG that will get his share of boards. :)

He’s not playing with Reed, and he’s gonna play with backups for some of his minutes.
Disagree - I think we'll go big at times because given their different skillsets and positional advantages Reed and Reibe could give teams fits with Demery, Ball, Karaban, Mullins, Stewart, Furphy providing additional inside/outside versatility. Can you imagine Reed getting one on one post ups due to the opposition's 4 having to guard Reibe at the arc (or pay the price if they don't)? And with Reibe's ability to put the ball on the floor and pass well, teams are gonna have fits trying to guard us again. This could be a American/Euro hybrid offense... Karaban will be able to settle into better face up 3's and a bit few less minutes a night keeping his legs fresher for late game/late season... Endless possibilities and flexibility.

Why does the double bigs thing pop up every year?

We don’t have the depth at the 5 and we have enough at the 4 where this makes zero sense.

Stylistically it can actually work this season as opposed to Sanogo/Clingan, Clingan/Johnson, etc. Not saying there'll be a ton of double big, but rather used here and there. Reibe's skillset is the difference this time around.
