not that most people here care too much, but it's interesting that the line for the game was 5.5-6 points for most people. I'm sure a lot of money was gained/ lost on that mix up call. If the refs used common sense, but some technicality in the rules resulted in them making an incorrect call, than I can understand what they did. But it went against both common sense and the rule book

I'm going to play Call of Duty to release some anger. Good night loyal Husky fans. If you do not hear from me tomorrow I probably skipped work and started a hermit's life in northern Vermont away from any refs, TV's, or big men prospects like Kameron Rooks and Sidy Djitte.

Some guy named Rob Dauster tweeted this:

"Officials got that call wrong on the goaltend. It should have been two points for UConn. From Rule 5, Sect. 1, Art. 3 of the NCAA rulebook: "When the official(s) permits a team to go in the wrong direction, and when the error is discovered all activity and time consumed shall count as though each team had gone in the proper direction. UConn should have gotten the two points, and it should have been Marquette ball at the other end of the floor."

They should appeal that game just for the duck* of it.
Their ruling just didn't make sense. First off if you're not going to count the points, how to you continue to play on and give MU the ball under their own offensive basket. Simply changed the whole nature of the game.

Oh, well. They fought hard though. I'm still very proud of them.

I'm pretty sure KO said "I know I'm right" while discussing this goaltend/wrong direction thing with the ref. I hope he follows through and contests the game.

The foul calling was typical, if uneven. The opening play in OT was unforgivable. Has anyone ever seen that happen?

Kameron Rooks committed to Cal today. No need to worry about him anymore.

Obviously the wrong call per UConn990411's post. But even if they decided UConn was shooting at the wrong hoop wouldn't it have been offensive interference on Marquette and therefore UConn's ball?

wouldn't the start of OT have been an offensive goal-tending call? the hoop doesn't count and we get the ball?

why are we punished for such a screw-up by all parties? including the refs

and the foul they called on DD's block was as bad as it gets too

It all makes sense from the refs perspective...

You see, UConn won the tip after we lined them up wrong. UConn then drives the lane and gets a gtending call against MU. But wait, they're going the wrong way cuz we lined them up wrong. So we decide nothing counts that has taken place yet in OT. Ooops, our bad, sorry...now who do we give the ball too...ah, alternating possession. Let's see, UConn won the tip, so alternating possession says it must be UM ball. But wait, nothing counts since the start of OT, well nothing except the opening tip to set the possession arrow, let's count that. Now where should we give them the ball after our f'up? Let's give it too them right here next to their basket since that's where the ball was by the time we realized we f'up.

Yellow ball!! Let's get on with this game.

Alternating possession had me confused as well. The last thing that changed possession was that Marquette got the ball to start the second half. Before that, UConn had a held ball, but ther was no held ball in the second half. During the only tie-up, Giffey called a TO.

The "technicality" was that they did not know the rule. They screwed up and it turned into a four point swing. I have a hard time believing that that would have been the call if Jim Calhoun was on the bench.

The one call that irked the crap out of me was EW's 3rd.......He puts his hands up in the back of the zone, the tool Otule (he's a hack, pushes all game could foul out in a half) walks into it and then grabs and pushes his arm in a pi**ed off manner to which the ref blows the whistle.......I'm thinking nice they caught the but instead it's on EW? Awful awful call by a guy who was just reacting rather than seeing the play!!

That and the second foul in which EW and Gardner were bending down to get a loose ball, both get their hands simultaneously on the ball, Garner lifts his arms up to pull the ball out of EW's hands, EW's hands fly up as Gardner shoots and the ref gives a foul on EW even though this ref was totally screened out of the play. Meanwhile the ref who could see the play sat on his whistle. This is the same ref who made the call you talk about and the same ref who called the clean block by DD and a majority of the calls against UConn. The block I can see getting called, but the two fouls on EW were ridiculous.
