Yeah that was me at the games. This is what we need to do more of. Jana with 11 rebounds showed what we need to do more of. Im not picking on anybody however Serah Jana Yana need to get more rebounds. It needs to be a mindset every play. That requires being aggressive on every play. It requires boxing out and getting position. It requires focus. Every time a shot goes up they need to go get the ball and if its offense, get it and score. Go up strong and if you're fouled. Getting fouling gets opponents in foul trouble and eventually makes them defenseless and that creates more space to work.

Our post players need to look to score too. Make a move and head to the basket. If your open and within your range shoot it. Dont think dont hesitate, react. Catch and shoot. We are at a point in the season where this needs to be part of their repertoire.

On team rebounding, sure, I agree. But generally somewhere above 75% of a team's rebounds are defensive, and somewhere above 60% of those are 'non-competitive' in that any one of two or three defenders could have gotten that particular rebound. And against a lot of teams that are more concerned with getting back on defense, the non-competitive rebound rate goes above 90%. And on competitive defense rebounds a high percentage of them are more about whole team effort in boxing out.

It is great to see one of our players with 10+ rebounds, but if it is 0 Off/11 Def, it usually isn't that impressive. Jana yesterday with 11 rebound and with a 5/6 split was impressive - not sure I remember another player getting 5 o-boards this season in a single game. Sarah is the leader in total rebounds with 192 but 160 of those are defensive and she is 4th in Off boards with 32 (she is taking a higher percentage of shots than the other contenders which explains some of that.) The leader in O boards is Serah with 46 in her 19 min/gm and Jana is right behind her at 42 in her 11 min/gm. Our O board demon Ash slots in at third with 35.

Uconn's TO margin results in Uconn taking 24% more shots this year than our opponents, but our shooting percentage margin (.531 vs .338) reduces the O/D board opportunity discrepancy - we take 67 shots per game, we miss 29, our opponents take 54 and miss 36 so the average for a Uconn in a game is 36 defensive rebound opportunities and 29 offensive rebound opportunities. We get 26 defensive boards per game and 11 offensive boards that works out to 72% of defensive opportunities and 38% offensive so we are a slightly above average rebounding team (adding the two percentages together - average would be 100 we are at 110.) We currently rank #50 in rebounding margin at +6.1 - the top is +18.7 for LSU and +15.7 for UCLA, the Median value for D1 (rank 179/180 out of 365 is +1.1)

Last thought - we play a trapping, pressure defense and when the opponent breaks through and attacks, the defense is in scramble mode - not the best situation for boxing out for defensive rebounds. This has resulted in a number of 'free' offensive players crashing the boards and a disproportionate number of O boards against us. The downside of our defense that is compensated for by our 25 opponent TOs and a +13 margin in team turnovers

You mentioned our O Board demon, Ash. That's exactly the way Williams and Jana need to approach Offensive rebounding and memo to Jana, don't pick up a foul every X number of rebounds reaching over the player boxing you out, as you have now been doing for almost 2 years.

During Kiah Stokes time at UConn, someone used to yell “up Kiah up” when a rebound came near her.

She must have been so physically dominant in high school that she could easily capture boards. This exhortation seemed to help in college.
