Agreed. Any time I stop to think about this juxtaposed to how it’s working now, the NCAA just looms as a truly evil entity. I wouldn’t be surprised if they designated something like “Ed O’Bannon Day” in an effort to deflect and seem like they’re on the same team as the people who have been fighting their unfairness for decades.

Of course it’s a love/hate relationship because college basketball is a product of the NCAA, but maybe it wouldn’t be chaos now if there were just revenue sharing from the beginning like there should have been.

It absolutely is for a super majority of college athletes covering all sports. And the athletes that do make money, get an education and use the school to develop their skills.

If they were good enough to go pro out of high school they would have. Instead, they go to college to hopefully prepare them for a professional career in their sports. This player development can be worth millions to many division one college athletes.

Which affects a microscopic portion of the 5000+ players in D1

We won't hit rock bottom until the two teams from one years finals meet in the following years final, but all players switched teams.

Remember when UConn was put on probation because we actually had the audacity to make our players attend class and get real grades instead of creating fake classes or giving them fraudulent grades?

That is an actual real thing for you too young to have lived through that ridiculousness.

Remember when the NCAA decided that anyone who had help paying for prep school and admitted it would have to serve like a three game suspension? I think it had something to do with some scandal that originated in Kansas.

Across the entire country, the NCAA sent 700 letters to prep players and FOUR self-reported. The rest just ignored the letters. So the NCAA suspended the four, including Caron Butler, for three games, issued a statement about how the penalties were going to be much worse for everyone else….and then promptly dropped the matter without further thought.

So Caron got to endure a round of bad press while everyone else just skated.

Are many or some currently not students? When was the last time any of us heard about a men's college basketball player not allowed to play due to academic issues? Doesn't sound like that happens anymore.

If that's the case, what guardrails are there to ensure these student-athletes are actually attending classes, taking exams, passing courses, Etc. Maybe all the academic support is working for all college basketball players. Just find it interesting that it has been years since hearing about any player suspended due to academic reasons.

I doubt that is true. I swam for UConn, and there was not a single person on scholarship out of 35 people.

Obviously you won't have all the players switching to the opposite team, but you do make and amusing point. It's just a matter of time where we will have some players in the final four playing against each other but on the team they faced the prior year. The odds of this happening are probably pretty low.

If we end up with Khamenia, let's see if one of our players who entered the portal commits to Duke. That could definitely increase the odds as long as the committee doesn't have them facing before the final four like they did this past tournament.

This made me wonder, since the portal is sort of this wild wild west free agency, why not allow teams to make a trade, one student athlete for another? I say that tongue in cheek knowing that will never happen.

It was because Caron had some SCHOOL BOOKS paid for by the Racine Community Service that he needed at MCI. School books! Not a car. And it was proven that the community service helped many kids from the area, not just good athletes that they might get a return on later. So Butler had to miss games while they looked into it. Did they look into it? Who knows. When they finally ruled he had already missed three games so they stated that he would have to miss three games. Hmmm. I hate the NCAA organization.
