Mahaney's competition this year is his teammates who are all fighting for PT.

At Saint Mary's they had no one fighting for PT? Not trying to be salty but this was real game time play, not practice. Else our own practice intensity would mean we go undefeated.

I think from what we have seen Reid and diarra gives us more defensive disruption.
Reid also can really score. Aidan is more of a Joey California and Samson is a 15-18 minute player— both important

I just meant that last year Mahaney was the best player on his team so he was going to be on the floor a lot. At UConn, he's got to compete against NC calibre talent just to get on the floor.

I see Mahaney as a key piece of this year's team and those who have doubted him will be proven wrong. He's a winner, and a gamer, IMO. He's going through a transition, but he's smart and talented. Soon, he'll be hitting game-winning shots. Very soon.

I think Danny very much wants Samson and Aidan to become the scoring threats he envisions, and he is being patient.
Hass and Tarris will see plenty of minutes, but to go all the way he wants a scary 9-man rotation; it just hasn't happened yet.
Surely the guards can start lobbing to Samson, and surely Aidan will regain the scoring touch he demonstrated for two years.

I like what I see from Reed. At this point, I do nothing.

Let this lineup get some chemistry and then allow Reed and Diarra to mix in.

The way i see it Johnson/Reed are 20/20 minutes split by plan. If Reed is more effective in a giving game, he gets more minutes.

Stay with your preseason plan. And I love diarra off the bench for energy, defense, scoring and pace of play.

Mahaney has gone up in class…maybe a few classes. St Mary’s didn’t have anywhere near the depth nor top end talent we have…and he’s struggling. But I’m not sure why? Shouldn’t it be easier to play with superior players against low level competition?

Maybe it’s confidence/system knowledge issues but it’s clear DH is trying to get him to be a competent PG. if he doesn’t come around we may be leaning on Nowell a bit more come BE play
