A warning for the not too distant future dystopia.

They should be rushing out a spinoff. Maybe call it Toejam: First Blood or Toejam Unchained.

Get the President from Civil War (or Ruffalo from Mickey 17) and the billionaires from Mountaintop. Tie them all in, major franchise.

I can see the trailer now, "Toejam, coming to kill a citizen in a neighborhood near you."

I guess.

I found the whole fighting to get aliens into the country to be dumb. Instead of human traffickers, just stick to drugs or weopons.

C'mon guys, did you not even watch the movie? Toejam is the lead ICE grunt. Maybe you've been living under a rock the last month?

I can lead you to water, but I can't force you to drink. Not without crossing the line and getting banned. I will not be ensnared.

Hint: I'm mocking some people in my post. If you don't know who it is, it's probably you and you have your Black Rifle Coffee T-shirt on. Because assault rifles and coffee is so metal.

I was gonna skip it, but ended up watching the most recent Fantastic Four. It was okay, watchable, but probably not good enough for repeat viewing. Not sure it was better than the first or second movie (the third one, and first attempted reboot, was truly awful). Kinda slow paced, a bit much of the family drama stuff. And of course wildly variable power levels of the heroes when the plot calls for it are hard to give a free pass to. Galactus was better as an actual physical being than the weird cloud thing like it was portrayed as before, but for such a cosmic power...he didn't really do anything? That's the problem with trying to use a villain of that level in a movie like this. Vanessa Kirby stood out to me, the rest of the cast was just kinda there but didn't have a chance to do much.

Jennifer Garner was wasted in this film. Marvel and Disney are horrendous

Sure. Decent dialogue. Great performance by Sean Penn and I would love if he acted more, to be honest.

I just struggle to find the overall message in a 2:40 long movie. It appears to be romanticizing underground militia, making political violence seem cool and rooting for characters doing bad things. You could say some of the same about mafia movies, I guess.

I don’t think it was that at all and neither side looked particularly good. The “militia” were a bunch of screw ups.

You know, I thought I saw her for a second. She wasn't even a named character was she?
 
Springsteen movie popped up this weekend on Hulu. God awful. Especially compared to the Dylan movie. And I enjoy Bruce a ton more than Bob.

Oh agreed she was wasted in the role. There was someone who looked like Jennifer on screen for just a second though.
 
I didn't mind a female Silver Surfer, it made sense in the story telling. But you didn't really need a physical presence in the movie. Just a great voice. I thought having a well know actor actually took away from the character.

She’s way too good of an actress to be in a Marvel film.

The female silver surfer was a terrible decision

And Robert Downey Jr as Doom is even worse

Secret Mall Apartment (2026)

The Netflix doc on the eight artists who secretly built an apartment inside the Providence Place mall between 2023 and 2007 was excellent. For seven of the eight artists involved, this doc was the first public outing of their involvement. Also goes into the themes of Providence's DIY scene in the late 90s/early 00s, the city's attempts at urban renewal and art as life.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere (2026 - Hulu) - It takes the period when Springsteen wrote Nebraska and Born In the USA, basically at the same time, while coming to grips with some demons from his childhood.

It is an old school biopic that is decent. I really like the interplay of Bruce and Jon Landau, and the supporting male characters mostly support that main relationship. I don't always like Jeremy Strong, but he is excellent here, and Jeremy Allen White is quietly becoming one of the best actors of his generation. Stephen Graham always delivers, in a tough role in...

See my review. It feels like it was a good little movie that a studio executive screwed up by adding a love interest who made no sense in the plot.
 
"The Wrecking Crew" on Amazon Prime. Seems like the adds billed it as more of a comedy than it is. About halfway thru I was thinking it was also way less over the top than I was expecting. Then they brought the crazy. There was a freeway chase scene with a helicopter that made even the Fast and Furious franchise look reasonable. Bautista and Mamoa both did their thing. They worked pretty well off each other. Fairly enjoyable.
 
The Living Daylights. Realized I didn't remember any of the Timothy Dalton Bond films, so gave this a whirl while the wife and daughter watched Titanic (other than Molly Brown I can't stand anyone on that boat). Jeroen Krabbe is an over the top corrupt KGB man working with an evil American Arms dealer played by Joe Don Baker. Maryam D'Abo is cute as the Bond girl, a Russian Cellist, but her lines are terrible. The car is pretty awesome, as they return to an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante after the Roger Moore era when he had the Lotus or mostly crap. This is a reminder of how weak the dialogue and plot were in the 70s era movies. Dalton is fine.

Side note: I remember Olivia D'Abo as the more attractive one (I thought they were sisters) and it turns out that Olivia's dad, Mike D'Abo is Maryam's first cousin. Mike was the lead singer of Manfred Mann.
