If the plot speaks to you a little bit, you can see better versions of similar concepts in the movie Dead Calm which has the added benefit of starring Nicole Kidman when she could actually move her face. Alternatively, you could watch 2018's Adrift with Shailene Woodley which, though not perfect, is dramatically better done and much better acted by Woodley. That has the added benefit of being based on a true story.
My wife can no longer watch anything with Nicole, but you described the reason better than anyone has. Sad and it wasn't necessary. Dead Calm is peak Kidman.

King of New York (1990)

Last week I watched King of New York. I had never watched it but a clip of the great Christopher Walken came up on my feed so I checked it out. Lots of big names early in their careers. The acting and production weren't exactly top notch but it was fun to go back in time. Laurence Fishburn was particularly entertaining because his character was very out of character for him.

Marty Supreme (2025) Yep, this story is populated with a nasty, unlikable people. It is Chalamet's movie and his Marty is an arrogant, self-serving pr*ck. There are a lot of people screaming at each other and hurting each other. Virtually no one is nice. At different points in the film Marty is humiliated, or he humiliates himself, but somehow he never learns humility. The critics love it and the acting is good but none of the characters grow or evolve. Perhaps the critics have been longing for a ping pong movie. It's also too long.
Thanks for the report, confirms my gut feeling. Pass. I hate everybody is a pr*ck movies.

One Battle After Another (2025) DiCaprio plays an aging terrorist (Bob) on the run. His group is working to let as many illegal aliens into the country as possible. In their spare time time they rob banks and murder people. These are the good guys. The military has no checks and balances and are after Bob for political and personal reasons. They are controlled by an elite group of country club white supremacists. They also kidnap and murder people. These are the bad guys. The movie is neither thoughtful or interesting. This is another dark comedy with no comedy and no socially redeeming values. It was, of course, critical acclaimed. It's not even well made. The story has plot holes and is not believable on any level. Zero stars.

Thought it was great. Watched it on a flight to the east coast and watched it again on my way home.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Since there is really nothing that is both new and appealing, some classics are getting a look. This 1978 remake stars Donald Sutherland (Matthew) and Brooke Adams (Elizabeth) as co-workers at the San Francisco Dept. of Health. Goop falls from space and Elizabeth's dentist boyfriend is suddenly not acting like himself and similar reports occur around the city. Jeff Goldblum is Matthew's buddy Jack and his wife Nancy (a shockingly fit and athletic looking Veronica Cartwright) first discover a body being duplicated. Leonard Nimoy is Matthew's famous psychiatrist friend who tries to calm down people claiming their loved ones have changed. Robert Duvall is in this for about 10 seconds. Eventually Matthew, Elizabeth, Jack and Nancy figure out that plant like pods are replacing people, but by then everyone is one of them. Final scene is somewhat famous. It's a good taught horror thriller.

Side note: it's fairly clear that Pluribus cribs pretty heavily from this. There are key differences, but the hive mind/coordination is similar, as is the space connection.

I hit a comedy trifecta on Tubi. Three of my fave comedies I haven't seen in awhile: My Blue Heaven, The Freshman, and Bandits. It's like Tubi was tuned to me with that sequence.

I always get just a little sad watching The Freshman as Bruno Kirby died waaaaay too young. And if My Blue Heaven doesn't have the greatest pickup line ever ("It's dangerous for you to be in frozen food... you could melt all this stuff") then I don't know what's better.

Most of y'all probably know the first two. For whatever reason Bandits was never the hit I thought it should've been. And I blame the casting of Bruce Willis for that. His hair was entirely unconvincing and he more or less sleepwalked through the whole thing save for the bank scenes. This would've worked better with someone like Clooney in that role. That said, this might be Cate Blanchett's sexiest role ever (and she's great as a redhead). The kitchen dance scene is chef's kiss. Most of all, it is Billy Bob Thornton's film I can't say enough about his comedy chops in this one as a total neurotic hypochondriac. His neuroses actually gets funnier with each viewing. It does get sappy and silly in the end, but the first half to 2/3rds is great, mostly due to Thornton and Blanchett.

The Freshman is an underappreciated gem. Brando is so good and has fun with it, Penelope Ann Miller is outrageously appealing and Broderick plays himself as usual.

I liked the original version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" a bit more than this remake, but the remake was certainly entertaining and a good movie as well.
