The original (first ever feature length cartoon) was a monumental feat and made Disney what it was when Disney was actually worth something. If you're remaking Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and you end up with neither a snowy white nor seven dwarves, I would say you're making a movie to impress the people you go to cocktail parties with in the summer and no one else.

Most movies are only as good as their villain, and Gal Gadot can’t act. At all.

Captain America Brave New World. This was weird. Not sure why they made this movie, especially since it relies heavily on past events that are referenced but which never appeared in any Marvel movie. Harrison Ford is pretty good. Looks very fit for his age. I appreciate that Anthony Mackie's character has huge doubts that he can be "Captain America". The ridiculous occurs regularly, as expected. Some very weird things are depicted, like Japan having a functional military. The casting choice for the President's Black Widow security aide could not have been worse. The woman looks like a 40 year old in the body of a stunted 8 year old. Just find a random fit, athletic actress, it's not that hard.
All in all, pretty bad, yet not as bad as it might have been. I still don't understand why this story needed telling.
Bucky is a guy they could make a movie around, especially if he was dating Liv Tyler. The missed opportunities.CABNW. Big, loud super hero movie. I love 'em. I thought they were a little cheap with the special effects and a lot of the special effects scenes were not good. Mackie is not as convincing as Evans in the fight scenes. And, of course, he should be dead multiple times in the movie. The story was OK. I could have used a little more Bucky. The Liv Tyler piece was a nice touch.
I enjoyed it more than expected, but it's like it's from a completely different franchise than the original. I wonder if anyone who watched 2 without seeing 1 would have a clue as to what's going on. The original did a solid job in portraying Christian's limitations in functioning in society, while also do a solid job explaining his gifts and motivations. The second has little of that. Christian isn't even the same guy, IMHO.The Accountant 2. Ben Affleck plays Christian Wolfe, the Accountant. Jon Bernhal is his brother, an assassin. JK Dobbins is back as head of FBI financial crime. Cynthia Addai Robinson is back as his #2. The attractive Daniella Pineda is new as another assassin, but how that came to pass is the backbone of the story. In some respects this is better than the first one. Perhaps it's Christian's attempts to be a little normal. It seems that Ben really has this character down now and that helps the whole thing work. It's ridiculous at times, of course, but it's a pretty good action film. Free on Prime.
I’m a huge Wes fan, like top 5 directors for me. I liked Phoenician Scheme. I did not like French Dispatch really, but I really liked Asteroid City.Wes Anderson movies are pretty much critic-proof these days. I think how you feel about The Phoenician Scheme will mirror what your feeling about recent Anderson movies is. We loved it. I thought it was hilarious. More great visuals, of course.
I just viewed that as Christian learning how to interact with people a little better.I enjoyed it more than expected, but it's like it's from a completely different franchise than the original. The kiddie computer camp was s bit ridiculous.

The speed dating sequence sets the table for that. It talks about all the prep work he did. I did like the sequence showing him using exactly the same lines delivered exactly the same way in the same abbreviated laugh.I just viewed that as Christian learning how to interact with people a little better.

Fantastic Mr. Fox, Darjeeling Limited and Grand Budapest still remain my favorite.
I'll be interested to hear your take on it. To me, it was a pleasant enough viewing experience, very typically Wes Anderson in that it was visually engaging with interesting dialogue. For whatever reason, I never retain any of the narratives from his movies (except for The Life Aquatic, because that was a hysterical premise). I still enjoy them though.well. I recently recorded Asteroid City, so I hope to be able to watch that one soon.

OMG, I can't say I don't agree with you anymore. I sign off on everything in your post. Perhaps Fox is tied for 3rd for me with Moonrise and Tenenbaums.I’m a huge Wes fan, like top 5 directors for me. I liked Phoenician Scheme. Tenebaums and Life Aquaric are right behind. I’m pretty rare in my love for Darjeeling but that’s the one of Wes’ that I love that others may not.OMG, I can't say I don't agree with you anymore. I sign off on everything in your post. Perhaps Fox is tied for 3rd for me with Moonrise and Tenenbaums.
And db, same here. But give it another try, I did and I loved it 2nd time around.
I liked it fairly well. Moonrise and Budapest Hotel are my top 2, not quite sure after that, but Darjeelling is near the top of the rest for me.I’m pretty rare in my love for Darjeeling but that’s the one of Wes’ that I love that others may not.
That's the one where it all clicked for me. The second Anderson I watched, first in a theater. And yes, that's the one that seemed on the bottom of many listsI’m pretty rare in my love for Darjeeling but that’s the one of Wes’ that I love that others may not.
