Receipts

I don't get it. Why is this thread title receipts?
Think he was using receipt in the sense that a bet slip is considered a receipt. Everyone was supposed to list their “bet” on how far the Huskies would go this year.

Sweet sixteen.
We have good players, will be in the hunt, and the season will be fun, but unlike last year we‘ll be vulnerable to an off shooting night from three or a bad match up. There just arent as many tools in the toolbox. And it not a knock o a team to admiit that we dont have a defensive presence like Castle or a Clingan. Two guys like that come along every ten years if were lucky.

If the issues aren’t addressed and fixed by Big East play, then that’s an issue. We’ll be fine.

People had waaayyyy to high expectations with this team. We lost arguably the best guard in UConn history and the best defensive player in the last decade+ of college basketball.

The team lost a ton. With the proper corrections we’ll be good
Please can we not water down our history of elite guards by calling Newton arguably the best.

He’s accomplished. Let’s just leave it at that.

And also arguably the best freshman we've had in a long time (that is now having a lot of success in the NBA). If we're still struggling in mid-January, then maybe it's time to sound the alarms.

Sweet 16, elite 8 if the bracket breaks just right.

Maybe a 4/5 seed that loses a heart breaker to a 1 seed in the s16 or loses a close game in the elite 8 as a 6 seed after getting past an 14 in round 2 and 7 or 10 in the s16.

I agree with this except I would try Mahaney as the backup at his more natural 2G spot instead of Ross. I’d also like to see Abraham get a look. I remember him being discussed as an elite defender when we were recruiting him and we can use help on D right now.
Mahaney looks like a 13 year old child out there I don’t wanna see him trying to guard bigger SGs. I wouldn’t mind seeing some Abraham for his perimeter D potential but i think Ross is in the same tier athletically so he has the tools to be a better defender.

It’s a work in progress. This Maui trip was an audition for most of the team. Once a regular, solid starting five emerges and the bench minutes get established, we’ll be fine. I think Nowell being 100% is a factor. Remember, until today, he got mop up minutes, so the coaches are clearly assessing the team during bad refereeing. I cut slack.
I love your take that the Maui trip is an audition for most of the team. I feel like, while the depth of talent is true, a lack of established roles is harming our coherence as a team. The more we establish roles among this roster the better the team will come together.

An easy way to go back and audit all the BYers who are killing us now but who will undoubtedly make a claim to celebrate when we hit our stride.
If I wasn't so lazy I would go back to old threads from 2023 for comments trashing Newton for not being a "real point guard" the year before he become an All-American point guard.

I'm gonna double down on some Natty bets. I'm assuming our odds (which were around +1000 prior to Maui) have dropped to at least +2000 or worse now.

+1500 on FanDuel right now.

Maybe after our loss today it will drop even more.

I still think by March we are a 2nd weekend team with a good chance to make the F4 - but seeding / matchups / injuries / etc all play a part. If we do win a title it won't come with 6 more double digit wins.

The winning will come back when Hurley wears his lucky suit and we play after 11am. And that UConn will never accept another tropical MTE invite.

It's not as if Hurley hasn't excelled in making mid-season adjustments. He did it in 2020 and had a bad team on the bubble before the conference tournament. He did it in 2023 when teams left Jackson unguarded. He didn't really need to do it last year, but did add elements to the offense once teams began switching on every off ball screen.

The team has flaws. We'll need to see if the staff can figure out how to mask them.

I think it has already happened: sending Mahaney to the bench.

My guess... Reed starts. We pump up Nowell's minutes. Stewart takes most of Ross's minutes.

I think we play off a bit more than we've seen before on defense too.

A literal treasure trove of stupid from many of the usual suspects . . .

Nowell shot 41% from three in his 23 games of EYBL play.
Ok and if he can take it to the hoke and dish then give him the reins, he had 4 assists pretty quick. Maheney is 15 minutes, let him hit 3’s in the second half when opposition is tired.
