Honestly, I don't know that I meant to.
I still think Casey surprises folks this upcoming season. He works very hard and has a great head on his shoulders. I wouldn't give up on him yet
I still remain high on Casey.
Realistically unless your USC, if one QB doesn't clearly separate himself then old adage of you don't have a QB applies.
The fact that we haven't had a clear #1 since DanO supports that idea.

Would you consider it a good sign if Lagow is tweeting about how the UConn women are wooping someone 62-17?
I think it was a tweet to someone like Emily Noonan, who rings a bell.

For the record, Emily tweeted the score first, Richard just re-tweeted. At least he's paying attention.Would you consider it a good sign if Lagow is tweeting about how the UConn women are wooping someone 62-17?

UConn had clear number one quarterbacks in 2007 and 2012. They would have had a clear number one quarterback in 2011 if said quarterback could follow the rules.
A "GOOD" . . . clear number one! And that was NOT the case in either year. Now that's harsh and I don't want it to be, so I'll qualify and temper.
In '07, the QB was an exceptional athlete and runner and had some leadership value. Also from all accounts, a good team guy. Unfortunately, he was a terrible passer (awful mechanics and not much arm strength). As a result, UConn had an abysmal passing game in both '07 and '08. And were it not for Donald Brown and Andre Dixon - a totally inept and impotent offense.
As for '12, CW showed a lot of promise and perhaps the best is yet ahead. Biggest drawback is the fact that the offense was abysmal and unable to get in the end zone enough to be considered even remotely effective. A decent passer, with decent arm strength, he may put it together this season. Just needs to be more consistent. Wish, he was as good a runner as TL ('07 & '08) because that would be special. Bottom line . . . the jury is still out on CW going into the '13 season and hopefully he will be the one that makes fans forget about Dan O.
You are confusing the 07 Lorenzen with the later edition after his shoulder injuries.
CW was pretty good. He spent the entire season getting buried with no running game to speak of to take any of the pressure off.
Neither were/are Dan O but both were clear number 1 quarterbacks. Lorenzen won the damn league in 07, sorry he wasn't a Heisman candidate.
To date he has better decision making stats. But not better talent than CW. Right now the turnovers are what are impeding CW.
I am of the opinion that Cochran is odd man out. Seems to me that they have effectively recruited over him as they say in basketball. He is behind Whitmer who has 2 more years of eligibility and started last year. He is being pushed by not 1 but 2 guys who would have to be considered more prototypical quarterbacks for they style we want to play. I've only seen Boyle and Cochran play 1 time each in high school and my view is Boyle is better, but I also concede that he had far superior talent around him. I totally discount the Spring game for Cochran since he was so clearly out of his league at that point, but almost any true freshman would have been in a similar situation. And I'm excited to watch Lagow. Texas football is way more sophisticated at the 5A level than anything in Connecticut so he may be the most polished of the 3.
Posts like this are why I don't follow recruiting. Every new recruit is the program savior, and last year's recruits suck because they aren't starting already.
Players take time to get ready. Playing a lot of freshman usually says more about the quality of the incumbents than the quality of the recruits. I don't know whether Cochran will be a good QB or not, but about a year ago most of this board thought he was the program savior. Now he sucks, and the new class will be the program saviors. And then a year from now, this year's class will suck and next year's class will be the program saviors.
