The hire: Dan Hurley
Hurley's brought some bite back to Connecticut, owning a 73-47 record (.608). Has made two NCAA Tournaments (the past two), though UConn was not a projected 2020 NCAA Tournament team when that season was canceled. If the Huskies had a second-weekend run to their name under Hurley, this would be a B-plus at least, but alas, UConn has been on the wrong end of two upsets the past two seasons. In 2021, Hurley's team lost as a 7-seed to No. 10 Maryland, then fell victim in a 12-over-5 game to New Mexico State this past March. Hurley is 40-32 in league play, the first two seasons in the American, the last two in the Big East. (Progression of league finish: ninth, fifth, third, third.) Hurley had the 18th-ranked recruiting class in 2019, 25th in 2020, seventh in 2021, and currently has No. 68 in 2022, per 247 Sports. James Bouknight went from being rated as the No. 66 overall player in his class to a lottery pick in two years' time. UConn matters again, but there's plenty of oxygen between where the program is now and its ceiling nationally. GRADE: B

I would say pretty fair analysis. Stabilized the program. but still a lot to be desired as far as post season results.

At this point the 7th rated class in 2021 stings the most for me. Despite have the most available minutes in the coutry, half the 2021 class has transferred out. If we are regrading we should regrade the #7 ranking.

Overall a fair analysis. Only thing I'd dispute is the Maryland loss last year wasn't really an "upset." In seed numbers, sure. In actuality, most 8-9/7-10 games don't result in upsets. At least not in the same category as a 5/12 game.

is your head in the sand? have you been reading the alleyne thread? if all goes well we are fresh out of minutes for next season.

PS- 2 of the 5 players in the 2021 class transferred out. hawk, samson, karaban were still on the roster the last time i checked. diggins was a bust and floyd would have been the 6th G in the rotation. we upgraded our Gs yet youre complaining about old highschool rankings?? 247 is the one that had diggins as a top 50 player to begin with. go ahead and email them saying his ranking was off if it makes you feel better.

Someone else pointed out how terrible the rest of the top hires from that year were in a post before. All fired except Hurley.
That alone makes the hire an A I would think.

It's a fluid situation

Still don’t understand how Mack flamed out at Louisville so bad. They’re a top 10 program in the history of the sport with a huge fanbase. They should be one of the easier spots to win at.

The only silly thing from the article is to frame recruiting success by year to year ranking composite. Like, we only had the 66th best class after topping out at #7! Yet, the obvious explanation is that we had only 1 recruit in DC, and he's a damn good one. It sounds a lot better to say that we have landed what, 8 or 9 top 100 recruits in a row?

I will be very surprised if Willard can last more than 15 seconds in Louisville.

Calling Penny a B- is a joke. He has buried that program and $$ is the only thing saving immediate collapse.

I like the write up and the fact that it’s mentioned that we still have some climbing to do

Yep agree. Great players underachieving year after year, that’s impressive coaching!

Alot of times recruiting rankings don't tell the whole story either. Sometimes you want a class to clean the decks where you bring in a ton of guys and sometimes you need one piece. I think considering our roster, Hurley has hit the mark every year in recruiting
