Ray Allen pondering retirement

It wasn't pretty this last Championship. The Ginobli blow-by made my heart sink. Sure he could squeeze another year or two, but why should he?

Go out while on top Ray.

He had to play far too many minutes. Miami needs another offensive option or two and Ray can still produce in a smaller role if he chooses to do so.

Ten million more dollars is still ten million more dollars.

There are still flashes of the old brilliance...but it's time for Ray Allen to hang them up.

Man... and I just bought my J. Shuttlesworth jersey. Well I guess I could wear it to UConn games.

Ray looked better than every non Lebron Heat player this series..
Not to be negative against Ray BUT that don't mean a hell of a lot.
The Heat looked like what they are - prima donnas
Discipline vs non disciplined

Ray will hang them up when it isn't fun for him anymore.

Ray isn't in there for his defense. He can still shoot and contribute but if it isn't fun anymore he'll retire. Money is not an issue at this point in his life and won't be a motivating factor.

Ray just needs to be on a team where he can create space for others simply by being there threatening from deep. The Heat have lost a step with Wade fading and it doesn't work anymore. If he likes playing, he should keep going. He is still very effective, especially when the personnel around him can create and penetrate. Remember, Ray isn't a superstar any longer but he's still better than half the players in the league. Why quit if you like playing and have value?

Wade is the one that ought to hang 'em up. But I guess he has 40M reasons to hang around.

I think he's still too valuable to some team to retire. The Heat's offense got stagnant, Wade was terrible, also Spurs did a good job of sticking to Allen. Still a good 15-20 min player on a championship caliber team. Ray Allen is by far my favorite Uconn player. Followed his entire career, going to be sad when it's over. Still wear my #34 Starter Uconn jersey from 95.

Honestly, the Ginobili blow by was more because Ray never really got on him - he was rotating over and Ginobili started to drive before Ray could get into position. A case of him maybe being a step slow in his old age rotating but not so much getting burned 1v1.

His biggest issue is that he just has a hard time getting open - when David West or Boris Diaw have guarded him and he's tried to run around screens, he can't shake even those guys, never mind a quicker guard. He has to rely on defensive breakdowns to get a clean look, and those don't happen when teams pay attention. There were two times yesterday when the Spurs left Bosh completely all alone instead of helping off Ray, which would be the sound rotation, but nobody wants to leave him. And when he puts the ball on the floor, he just can't make anything happen any more. He has no explosiveness and no lift (his dunk in game one was with a full head of steam) - I'm sure the repeated foot/ankle injuries haven't helped in addition to Father Time. And that hurts because on a day when your jumper is off, you'd like to get some easier buckets to get going, but Ray doesn't have those arrows in his quiver.

My guess is he retires - it's less fun to watch him play these days since he's so limited, and I imagine it's less fun to him to have to play at 50 percent of his old capacity. But that's just a guess.

Ray Allen is still valuable even if he's not getting his shot because he ties up a defender and creates more space by him being on the floor. He also is a good passer. The problem with the Heat in this series is no one could hit a shot.
