UConn has four less wins than Stanford, so even with the loss I think Stanford should still be ranked ahead of UConn. UConn should be no higher than 6 or 7 until they win some more games.I have a great deal of trouble respecting the polls - Stanford lost to a team that received 0 votes, even AFTER beating Stanford, and yet one person still voted Stanford #1. Really?!?
I'm not arguing where they should be ranked vs UConn, just saying Stanford shouldn't have gotten a 1st place voteUConn has four less wins than Stanford, so even with the loss I think Stanford should still be ranked ahead of UConn. It’s a bad loss to be sure but away in ot.I have a great deal of trouble respecting the polls - Stanford lost to a team that received 0 votes, even AFTER beating Stanford, and yet one person still voted Stanford #1. Really?!?
But at some point you have to actually win games and can't just rank teams by how they look on paper as they do for the pre-season polls.
Totally disagree ..... should a mediocre team rate a higher rating on the basis of having played more games??? How many people don't think that Ohio State football team was easily one of the best three or four teams (if not higher) in the country despite playing substantially less games than anyone in the top 25? Exactly the same applies to women's basketball .... who out there doubts that UConn is one of the top four teams in the country?UConn has four less wins than Stanford, so even with the loss I think Stanford should still be ranked ahead of UConn. So if UConn doesn't play another game this season, would you keep them ranked where they are? This is the argument that some used against Ohio State this year because they played the minimum number of games to qualify while other teams went out and played their full schedule. Sure Ohio State is one of the best teams in the country, but I think at some point you have to put that aside and reward the teams that play and win the games on their schedule.Totally disagree ..... should a mediocre team rate a higher rating on the basis of having played more games??? Ask @Plebe how many BY voters put UConn 5 or lower.. who out there doubts that UConn is one of the top four teams in the country?
Did you know UConn was ranked No. 1 one year and lost a game and was voted No. 1 still. The team that beat them was Tennessee. But at some point you have to actually win games and can't just rank teams by how they look on paper as they do for the pre-season polls.
If we are going to rank solely based on games played and records, then we don't need a poll. Just look at the numbers...I have sort of adopted a policy in my BY Top 25 ballot that if you aren't playing, even if it's something out of your control like COVID, you shouldn't be ranked above teams that are putting their records on the line, even if it is against lesser teams. In the previous two BY ballots, I had Louisville in the #5 position because they were either not playing or were coming off a layoff, and I had NC State at #2 because they had continued to play.
This week, I moved Louisville to #1, UCONN to #2 and dropped NC State to #4 (and behind South Carolina, a team they had beaten earlier in the year), because the Wolfpack Women had not played a game since the last ballot. I doubt NC State will look like the team that was rolling along pretty well prior to their pause when they finally return to action on Thursday. I justified putting them ahead of Stanford due to their still-undefeated status...but I am concerned about what will happen the next game.
I can't lie, I was another one voted UConn at #5Ask @Plebe how many BY voters put UConn 5 or lower.
I had UConn 5th.
